Hit a railroad tie at WOT stripped spur gear, replaced it ran maybe 5 minutes before stripping new one. 100% stock 2.5?????????????????? What is standard procedure for setting gear mesh distance?

Put a strip of paper or plastic from a parts bag between the pinion and spur. This will give you the perfect gap once you push the pinion against the spur with the strip in between. Tighten down the mill and pull out the strip and you will be good to go.

You might want to check a few other things as well. Like a cracked engine mount. If you hit something that hard, the engine mount typically cracks. I broke quite a few of them when I had a maxx.

With a cracked mount, it will be hard to get correct mesh, or at least to keep correct mesh.

engine mount

I did break the engine mount but had it replaced. The truck was running great, I was ploaying nice and easy and all of a suddne I heard that rattle, you know the one, I popped the body off and sure enough....stripped. I still have no idea what caused it. But I will but another, if that strips I'll be buying a savage.
