with a larger spur, you will have less power, but the first gear will have a larger range of rpm. thats what i meant. i know about gear ratios. with the bigger spur, the engine runs out of revs in first too fast.

You do realize Will, that the shift point (rpm at which the maxx shifts to second) is adjustable. When you switch gears, either spur or clutch bell, you are going to have to change this shift point.

The adjustment screw is located under the rubber covers on the transmission.

mine is at the highest rpm possible, and it still wont roost with the 72t 4 me. the engine runs out of rpms, the shift point is not the problem.

I don't understand what shifting into second has tyo do with pulling wheelies. If it was set before that it shifted second before you even took off then ya had problems to begin with that changing spur gear to lower teeth would help. Maybe I'm just lost here but don't understand the reasoning behind it pulling wheelies with a 66 but wouldn't pull them with a 72 and sumthin bout second gear. *brain freeze* I need a beer.

let me try to explain this. when it is in the premier stage when it is just about to wheelie, the car shifts, and loses that momentum, at least for me. and when i put a smaller spur, it made the low end a little worse, but when i hit the powerband in 1st gear, i can pull wheelies

I'm quite lost myself. I don't understand how you grt wheelies wiyh that gear ratio. .. I'm going for another beer myself. Maybe when i come back it will all make sence.

I don't know - still doesn't make sense. If you are at a dead stop and nail the throttle and it shifts into second before taking off (which is when the wheelie would occur) then changing to a 66 tooth spur is not going to help that problem. I dunno - glad you got it to do wheelies though. I have everything stock with (engine tranny wise except for FOC) RPM Monster Clawz and Proline Bow Ties and it wheelies on command.

I think I understand what you are getting at. With a different gear set, it doesn't rev high enough, then when it shifts, its got no more power until it gets up to speed, correct?

That being said I have a possible solution. That does not include gear replacement.

Adjust your transmission, so when you are in your power band, instead of shifting, and loosing momentum, it stays in gear and continues to accelerate.

This will do two things.

#1 Increase RPM at which it shifts, allowing you to use more of the engines RPM.

#2 It will raise the RPM's at which you enter second gear.

This will put you right into the power band of second gear immediately after the shift.

If the tranny shifts too early, you won't be able to use the upper RPM of your gear set. When when you shift into second it will be moving too slow for your second gear to work efficiently (no torque after shift).

Gears should be used to increase power on take off, or increase the top speed of your rig. Not to change the shift point, or usable rpm before or after shift

The shift point adjustment should be used to keep your engine in its power making range before and after the shift.

Does this make sense to you, or did I not understand what you are trying to accomplish?
