spur gear striped

Only after you have figured out why you stripped the plastic one. A metal gear will put more strain on the tranny and the engine if there is a mesh issue and you do not figure it out. Also, a metal gear will cause more damage when things are not set up properly.

So, I suggest you solve the problem with respect to what caused you to destroy the plastic one. Once there, you can figure out whether an upgrade to metal is a wise decision.

Of note, I have burned up one spur do to a tweaked chassis. Solved that problem and still running on the second plastic spur gear. I am waiting for RRP to come out with a better offering in the way of metal spur gears before jumping into that, but I do run metal spur gears on my T-Maxx and have not had any problems.

Something will always break. I'm running an RRP metal spur, and the last problem I had was a 16t clutch bell getting turned into a 15t. Also, I go through alot of clutch bearings, probably due to the low ratio of dirt time vs air time I run up.

Something will always fail. Make sure you get the mesh right and adjust the slipper correctly.

This may be a little bit off topic but for you big air bashers where do you guys run your slipper. I think I am running mine at about a 1/4 turn out from all the way tightened down. Error also I imagine you are but I'll ask anyways are you running a hardened clutch bell with that steel spur. I have read on numerous ocassions if you get a steel spur it would behoove you to get a hardened bell.

Sadly, I run Duratrash CB's. I'm too lazy to order good ones. I think they are hardened, since the 16 I was running (now a 15) had some wear, but nothing out of the ordinary. I think I just over stressed it and it was probably due to be replaced anyway. The 14t that came with the RRP spur was, IMO, poop. The inside of the clutch was horribly machined, and had a coating of rust over all of it. The spur was mint, and I have no beef with it. The CB also had no blueing or oxide finish. I was nevertheless pissed.

Anyway, I run my slipper almost all the way down. At most, I adjust it 1/8th turn from loced. This is probably the main reason for my CB failure, but hey, why not. I also run a 4 shoe clutch, and the tight slipper really makes for good hole shots and instant acceleration out of the corners.

i think i had the nut to tight. I'm going to have the guy at my lhs put in a metal gear in . so the set up will be right. he looks like he's got his poop in a groop. sence i have never done that before. that's seems like the easy way. i know i won't learn anything that way.Accept to open my wallet. I'm good at that!

LOL...he might look that way, but are you sure he is. If he isn't you may have to open your wallet in a huge way when that spur goes.

Doing a spur gear install isn't that difficult. We could talk you through it fairly easily.

But it is your ride and your money.
