so my buddy went and bought a tmaxx and it has since eat the spur gear...I'm not familiar with the tmax...what is necessary to remove in order to get the spur gear off...can i just remove the gas tank or will i also have to remove the motor...and is there anything i need to know about the removal and installation of the gear itself....just need a little guidance...lol...thanks guys..

well guys...maybe i need some help on this issue after all....i got the spur gear installed....and the slipper clutch seemed to be acting fine....the about 10 minutes into my test run the spur gear strips...upon closer inspection it appeared to me that the motor had shifted little and let the drive gear eat it up.....so i replaced the spur gear yet again...set the gap on the gears with 2 layers of printer paper...and tightend the motor down as tight as i felt i could without stroippin it.....by this time my buddy was back so i let him test it....once again about 10 minutes into the run the spur gear stripped.....i suspect the motor shifted this time too but i havent really looked at it yet....how can i keep the motor to stay put...should i use new bolts and washers.....is there another reason this could be happening...both time i set the gap on the gears with 2 layers of paper....the same as i have done on my revo many times and its never given me a problem...am i just not tightening the bolts tight enough....now we got to wait on some new gears....which sucks....i hate not having a LHS...any how...thanks for what ever help you can throw at me....

is the very top of the gear stripped? if thats the case then your meshing is too loose. try setting your meshing with one sheet of paper. thats how i set mine and i never have a problem

yea it did just get the top of the gear....but when i put it on it appeared to be meshed deeper than what stripped off.....but i may have been wrong...ill try that next time....has anyone ever had a problem with the motor shifting??

i use the paper too when you run the paper between the gears you should have a nice even ripple from side to side. when i put a new one on i usually have the motor push almost as far over as it will go and never have a problem after that

my motor did that to me once, i used model glue in the threads to keep the screws in tight since i didnt have any light thread lock stuff. and since its been working great for me. of course i bought a few extra spear gears just in case for later down the road.

Make sure the clutch bell bearings are ok, then use blue thread lock on the motor mount screws. also look over the slipper for any problems like a cracked pressure plate.

1 more quick question guys....the tmaxx has a 58 tooth spur gear on it....the only hobbies shop within 45 minute drive frome here only has a 64 tooth as i alredy bought the only 58 they had....i was wondering if it would be ok to run the 64 tooth until i get the 58 in the mail....would this cause any major problems....other than just being geared different....basically will it hurt nything...

no it wont hurt anything, it will just a little less top speed and a little more bottom end.

I had the same problem with my tmaxx. Put new one on and yet it did it again so finally I took the motor out and noticed there were two bolts missing from where the motor bolts to the mounts causing it to shift and strip the gear. Check and see if thatis your problem

Every bolt or screw that threads into metal should have light-duty locktite applied to the threads. Especially on nitro vehicles. They rattle apart in no time.
