I just had to replace my spur gear on my savage 25, and am running into probs. First of all I had to 52T because my LHS sucks, and didnt have any 49T. Anyway, I put it on (Which sucked) and I was trying to go by using the manual, but it doesn't say to much. Anyway, It seems to flow well when I push it forward but when I pull it backwards it makes a "Cling" noise.. The teeth seem to line up well and I did the spring to what the book said. Anyone know what this might be, and if its gonna cause any harm when I run it? This is my 1st repair to my savage and 1st time I even tuned a bolt on it, so I'm kinda a newbie to the savage layout.. Pretty tucked in there from the Ol' Tmaxx..lol.. Thanks fellas

does it have reverse? i had to put on a 52t today as well cause its all the lhs had.. you may have to lentghen the connection rod that attaches on the carb slide or your servo wont be in the same place it was on the 49t. mine makes the same noise when i pull it backwards as well.

no it doesn't have reverse. Have ya run yours yet? had any problems? I didnt get to take it out and try it and figured Id ask the "Rcnt Dr's" before I did.. Just didnt sound right.. But was done by the book...

yeah i ran mine like a lunatic today and will go to the dirt jump spot tomorrow.

ok so no worries? Thanks for the help! Howd ya like the 52 compared to the 49? The LHS told me it will be alot beefier, and more tourqy but will take 3-4mph off (Which i dont mind to much)

I had a problem one time with the fiber brake disk rubbing against the clutch bell. I don't remember what gear combo I had at the time, but you should check into it. If you have the duel disk set up it's not a problem and dissregard this post. :2cents:

the 52t is a lot beefier in the take-off but i really haven't noticed the top end loss. it shouldn't be drove wot all the time anyways. one problem that i have noticed is that the gear ratio to the 16t bell cause s the backside of the spur to melt. another savage cat had the same problem. and yes clintd I'm running dual disk brakes as well. i waiting on a robinson steel spr 48t 17t bell to come in

i melted the teeth off the 52t today. had an excellent day at a new bash/bmx/mx track today. blew out 3-4 shocks (laugh*stock shocks*chuckle) with oil melting out like a new wet girlfriend, and totaled the body pretty much. had to CA a tire, and melted the teeth off the 8th spur gear.

why do they make plastic for these parts when the motor and clutch have that much power to heat transfer? it's not shifting the motor mounts; it's striaght melting the teeth offf

i put a steel spur on and it just kept on striping the teeth on my clutch bell.
If you do this you will need to o the same for the CB. THe stock ones are not as "hard" or tough.

Well today it took out the savage with the 52T vs. the 49t I had before, and I gotta say I think I like the 52 more. The power is crazy! The thing is REALLY a wheelie monster now! I havnt had any probs with it meting in the back of the spur gear yet though, and I drove around today for a good 2 tanks. I like it!
