hey what up i lost like 5 teath off my spur gear thats bad isnt it. or do i not have to worry bout it. if i go but i a new one is the medal one good or does it brake sometimes

I've put my metal gear through hell and back and it's never broken. I've had everything around it break from time to time but the gear survived. One thing about putting in a metal gear, traxxas made the gear which is pretty easy and cheap to replace as exactly that. Something that if it breaks you spend $5 and have your truck running in 5 minutes. If you install a metal gear you do run the risk of breaking something in the tranny which is not too difficult to fix but kind of time consuming.

ok i just got off the phone with my local hobby store and they said there out of the medal spur gears and i have a race tommorow they said that the stock spur gears are 2 or 3$ so thats way cheaper then i thought it would be. but do you think i broke anything else from the spur gear breaking i hant ran with it or nothin but i need to know before 5:30 today eastern time so wahat do you think is it just the spur gear or was there a reason for it braking

and yea dude metal aint bad but sumtimes means trouble......but also just a few teeth chipped or missing wont do much damage to anythig else. but if you ruun it you're only goin to strip all of the other teeth off too so id say grab a new one..(or 2)

yea wow your not goin to beleive this. i went to the hobby store and i got the gear and went home to put it on. and the damn spur gear was warped somehow it was crazy so i had to go to the hobby store and i went and got 2 more just to make sure

my stock(on my maxx when i bought it)spurgear was warped. but it still works and hasnt lost any teeth................yet.

You might want to make sure you just didn't have it aligned improperly, it's pretty easy to do.

yea i heard thats how most of them are but i havnt ran it like that yet cuz i got 2 more spur gears and there the same but i guess ill run it tommorow and see how it does and then ill tell you how it ran

Are you sure it starts out warped? Or is it warping when you crank the spur nut down? I know mind got pretty wobbly when it was mounted and had the nut backed off 1/6 of a turn. It's a cruddy design. I don't know if I could have done better, but there's a lot of things on the maxx that sure could be better. This is one of them.

Odds are the spur gear is not warped. It may look that way when you spin it...kind of all out of alignment. That is the way a floating gear will look. Just center it up as best you can. When the thing starts spinning at upwards of 5000rpms it will flatten out its path the way it should and run fairly normally.

ok i thought i was havin some bad luck haha havin 3 spur gears lookin warped but now i know thanks skymax.

No problem. We're here to help...

I thought my Maxx was bad outta the box when I first bought it because I could spin the spur (in either direction with reverse!) and watch it wobble... and then I thought: "What the hell is gonna transfer power to the wheels??"

What about...

Spur gear/clutch bell alignment? I understand that spur wobble is normal, lash is important, but what about alignment? My spur/bell alignment is off about 1mm to 1.5mm. That doesn't sound to trustworthy to me. I can't see any fore or aft adjustment of the engine or trans so how have people fixed the problem? The truck is only about 10 to 12 tanks old and the clutch bell has minimal movement on the crank brg. nylon washer appears to be there. Sorry to jack this thread, but I did a search and this is what came up. Apparently I'm gonna have to pull this new motor to seal it and maybe I'll address it then? :dumb:

Yeah, if you just tighten it all down just enough so that you can move the motor and then push the clutch bell side of the motor in towards the spur gear and then push the back end of the motor in the opposite direction that should straighten it out a bit. You are out by 1 - 1.5mm? that seems like a bit too much, you could end up stripping the spur gear. There is no adjustment in the trans, but you should be able to get a bit out of the motor. Remember to check the mesh with copy paper when you are done!!
