I've got a ofna .21 motor for my tmaxx. i think the rpm is up to 38,000 so it know its a lil slower than the original tmaxx 2.5 motor. so what should i do to get it back up to speed in my tmaxx?? should i get a new clutch bell?? i have a 70 tooth spur. should i go with a 22 or 24 clutch bell. I'm wanting it near the same speed or faster than my 2.5 motor was. i dont want a super torque setup as i would if i just droped the motor in and ran it as is.

thanks
mike

Is it a mid-block engine or a 21 conversion chassis?

If you gear the same as you did with your 2.5, you will probably get about the same speed, if not faster, with the 21 engine. Even though the 2.5's max rpm's are higher, I can almost guarantee you that it was never getting to the max RPM because it doesn't have the power to do so. The 21 engine has more power, so it will be more likely to get to the higher RPM than the 2.5 did. This is why I say the speed will probably be about the same, if not faster.

its a mid block engine with new motor mounts i believe, I'm still kinda new to this stuff, but it was a direct drop in with the new mount.., if that makes any difference. its a ofna hyper .21 if that matters too.

what i really need to know is what i need or should upgrade when putting this motor in before i go breaking stuff.

No, doesn't really matter. I was just going to suggest running an 1/8 scale clutch/spur setup, but you can't with the stock chassis and a mid-block. You need the extra room the 21 conversion chassis gives you to make it fit.

About the only things I'd upgrade at this stage of the game would be to remove the reverse stuff and install a FOC (forward only converion) as it is stronger than the reverse gears. Then, upgrade as you break stuff.

With a 21, the first things to go are the clutch, spur, trans, diffs and axles.

that .21 will make your T-maxx move WAAAAAY faster....get some diapers buddy....you'll need em when you run that sucker.....
BTW....good luck tuning it.....they're a bit finicky for a novice.....

yah it doesn't matter on rpm...it will go way faster. that piece of poop stock 2.5 just plain sucks butthead!! rpm make the engine be able to have higher top end but doesn't make it slower then a fiddlesticking 2.5 for gods sake.

later,
lyle
