RC Driving Style
I have spent my last dollar on the tmaxx. My RR equipped tranny got destroyed somehow so i am converting it to 2wd and reordering the tranny gears. I opened up the tranny and a pile of metallic dust fellout. Both gears are eaten up and it looks like they weren't meshing as tightly as they should have been. I am done spending cash on this thing though. If this tranny craps out then i am just gonna part it out.

this is annoying. :arrr:

Did you take it apart before and not seat the gears in right? Maybe something warped on the case or enough slop to allow the gears to shift and get torn up?

What about your driveline? Was there any binding on any of them? Either differentials bad as well? Maxx's are notoriuos for having binding on the drive lines and having bad Diffs.

its got hardcore racing diffs in it but i am gonna convert to 2wd and just leave a locked rear.

Everything looked right and the only think i can think of now is this:
I blew up my stock rear diff so i bought some front and rear (fully assembled)hardcore racing diffs. I only put the rear in since i was ready to get rollin. maybe somehow i got a diff gear ratio in the rear? I dunno. I am going to 2wd to pick up a few mph and hopefully aleviate any problems.

Its been overnighted so i'll see on friday.

if you lock the rear you will have more headaches....leave it as a diff and use heavier grease or seal em and use oil....locking them will tear up the driveline bad if run on the street....

my truck has seen pavement once or twice. I keep it in the grass so it should be ok. I understand where you are coming from though.

I ran mine locked with an wasp 18 in it for about 3 gallons. 2wd only.

You didn't happen to have a mix of aluminum/steel RRP gears did you? You can't (shouldn't) do that. It tears the aluminum ones up.

Did you maybe have a bearing go out in the trans that you didn't notice? My RRP top 2-speed gear bearing went out frequently a couple times, but I caught it before any real damage occured.

i am l--l this close to parting mine out and buying a savage X.

hopefully this tranny holds up for awhile while i save

its already done. i am parting out the maxx and getting one.

i should be able to sell the max and only spend a hundred or so and have one.

I got a buttload of stuff on my max.

I figure the diffs, tranny, 18tm, and cage will go the qucikest. after that is UE bulkheads, tons of rpm stuff, big joes. blah blah blah
