Hey everyone!

I am new to this forum, but not new to Nitro! I recently acquired a Traxxas Revo 3.3 5309 (the older 5309...not the new one)

It still has the opti drive and reverse installed and i would like to keep it that way for now as this truck will be more of a basher than a racer. I ripped out the stock receiver and went to install the Spektrum, but I'm confused about the opti drive wiring. As you know there is only an AUX, THR, STR on the Spektrum receiver and with this opti drive there is a throttle out and shift out. Can anyone please tell me how to properly wire this up? or show me a picture of theirs hooked up?

Thanks guys!!:D

The best thing to do with the opticrap is throw it as far as you can from your Revo! It's more headaches than it's worth. I'm not 100% sure how to hook up the reverse without it because I did away with both on my Revo. I've been told that you can keep it. Which Spektrum did you get? Don't you need a 3rd channel for the reverse to even work properly?

Well, the "AUX" is your third channel on your spektrum.

I'd assume that "throttle out" goes to the throttle/brake servo directly and the "shift out" goes to the reverse servo. Pretty sure there's an "in" for both of those as well along with the sensor in.

It's purpose is to keep the user from shifting forward->reverse if the transmission is in motion. If the trans is in motion, it just doesn't let it shift until the trans stops. Not sure what the purpose of the "throttle in" and "throttle out" are though as it senses the motion of the trans... not the position of the t/b servo.

Plug the throttle servo into the TH, put the steering into the steering port and put the reverse switching servo into the AUX and get rid of the opti drive, they do'nt communicate well with spektrum recievers, thats what i had to do but make sure that you trim the ears off of the servo connectors otherwise they won't fit into the spektrum reciever

Yea i had a splitter and i wired it up properly with the opti drive and it makes the throttle servo twitch and the opti drive gets confused even when reset.....oh well lol out it goes.

It works fine without the opti drive! Ill probably just get rid of reverse now.

you can keep the reverse and not the opti-drive, you just need to make sure that you are at a complete stop before you try to shift to reverse

The right answer is opti-poop,worst thing for the tranny in my veiw, every time you get a problem in there I found it to be a result of the reverse.throw it all out.
