hi i have recenltly upgraded my savage to 49t steel spur gear and racing 17t cluth bell. now the problem is that i have noticed sparks coming from the gears. and also my cluth bell teeth are geting damaged. what could be the problem and how could i slove this problem. is the combination correct or what. this truck has given me a lot of problems since the time i have bought it. please suggest.

the "racing" clutchbells are lighter and not as strong as the cb's labeled hard coated.

the sparks may be from the excessive wear, am not sure.

When I ran steel spurs, I run OFNA hardened bells. They hold up really well. Even then, I use a wax based lube on the spur/cb. The stuff is made for bicycle chains I think. I picked it up at a bicycle shop, white lightning. You shake up the bottle, apply it sparingly to the parts, let the parts dry and a light wax residue is left. Seems to really help with general wear. I use it on axle cups as well.

You could also try a dry lube like sullivan dry ice or amsoil dry lube. I'd have a look and make sure your gear mesh is correct, that would explain the gears eating themselves.

Olds is right on it, if you run a steel spur gear you HAVE to run a hardened clutch bell. You can run a 16t, 17t, or 18t with that spur gear. I have never lube them and have had no problems. I did try to run my Savage with a regular CB and it bent the teeth..... :)

I ran a HPI standard bell against a steel spur once... it lasted half a tank then looked like this:

The mesh was perfect. I was running an OS21RG in a BB maxx with an RC Solutions steel spur. All I had on hand was a savage CB that I had received in trade a long time prior. It may have been 2/3's of a tank, but I didn't make it through an entire tank of fuel. It was brand new before I put it on.

thanks guys, i was my mistake. i had installed a 18t clutch bell with a 47t spur gear. it was not a correct combination. now i have rectifid it with 49th spur gear and she is runnng fine. what power guys.

I hear ya ABS. I run a 49t metal spur gear and have a 16t and 18t hardened clutch bell. If I want more power, I use the 16. More speed and I use the 18. Gotta love it.........

whats the dufference between a harderened clutch bell and a racing clutch bell. are they both same.

I don't think they are the same. The racing clutch bells are vented to make them cooler. The hardened clutch bells have been heated, cooled, heated, cooled, heated, cooled, ect... to make them very hard hence the hardened clutch bell. Hope I got that right! :)
