What started as a very innocent upgrade of the server software, quickly turned into a nightmare. Lucky for us our Network operations center was able to get us back online quickly and even more importantly - with NO data lose.

FYI, some of these server upgrades are still going on in the background and very minor downtime may be seen again, but not nearly as long as last last night through this afternoon. One these upgrades are done, then the upgrades to RCNT will continue.

Glad RCNT is back. I was starting to shake from withdraws. ;) Any idea what server software they were upgrading? The OS? What is the current state of the upgrading for RCNT? 50%?

It sucked! It's my day off and no RCNT. At least it wassn't an entire day.

mcvickj,

The server software we're upgrading is all the main components; apache, php, and our control panel.

RCNT's overall upgrade status is I'd say close to the 50% mark. The RCNT Gallery should be completely upgraded this evening if all goes well, which will leave the rest of the forum updates and all of the front page and our articles. After that I'm taking about 2-3 weeks break.

I'm curious as to what other big changes if any, u have for us. Do u want to share or keep it a surprise?

Changes in RCNT:

- Biggest change will be the front page for sure. Not only is the front page being re-done but it's also going to be a much bigger part of the site, not just the forum. Not only will it be a place to get news and such, but the same program will handle ALL of our articles, news, how-to's and tips. This system will be easy for both users and for the staff and anybody that wants to submit articles to RCNT. No HTML coding is needed, no special access to the server is needed as well, if you can use MS Word you can write prefectly designed articles for RCNT. The front page should also be search engine spider friendly which should improve are rankings on search engines.

- A new header is also being designed as we speak, one which will show off your new logo. For those of you that haven't seen the new logo check out our shop page, a few items are already sporting it.

- Forum updates, while the base software has already been upgraded there are still plenty of changes to do to the code and to the style of the forum.

- Last but not least the RCNT Gallery, the upgrade for this should be under way now if not very soon. No major changes in it other then it's much newer software and works with the new forum as well.

Plenty more to come, just try to remain patient.

-Michael
