Hey Guys,

Have a quick story to tell you all. My father bought himself a T4 Team kit and Mamba sidewinder 5700. Now my father is not the avid RCist, but ever since I got him to drive one of my RC's a couple of years ago, he has gotten bit by the bug... well sort of. He started off with an electric Stampede, which I know have, he moved up to an EMaxx, and now he has the T4. This all started back when I told him I wanted to build a track in the back yard. He wanted something to race, so he gave me a budget and told me to "hook him up"! So this past Thursday his Kit came in. At first he wanted to see it built, then he changed his mind, and just asked me to build it for him. I sat down Thursday night to start, and finished up Friday night. Man what fun kit building is! Well I took it over to him yesterday afternoon and man did his face light up when he took it for a spin. I had an XS3 and a few RS300 recievers laying around so I hooked him up. I brought my T4 over and we raced around in the street for a few packs. Man I tell you it was great! My father and I didn't get along much when I was a kid, but it seems now that we finally have something we can do together. RC is a great hobby... ain't it?!

WOW what an awesome story! I love when I read about how Rc'ing has brought a family together or even made them closer. I dont have my father anymore unfortunately, but my better half has taken a liking to RC's also. We never truly shared a common hobby except maybe going to the movies. Now every time I go bashing, she's right there to watch, learn and grab up the remote if I set it down too long. It's GREAT!

Yes it is. Glad to hear the hobby helped you guys. I have tried to get my family involved, no luck. My kids always come with me to the races but it's hard to keep them interested.

That a great story Tom, wish i could of done that with my pops but, he passed away in 2006...still hurt alot. But ya it is a sweet a** Hobby!!!

It is really nice for me that I am able to share a common interest with my father. I think I spent my entire childhood trying to make it as hard on my father as I could. I am truly lucky to have found something that we can do together now. I do regret making it so hard on him as a kid. I guess I am making up for it now. It was so awesome to see that grin on his face when he hit that throttle trigger. Makes it all worth it. My father will be 60 in a few years and even though that is not old, I am glad that I still have the time to at least make the most of the time we get to spend together now. Hopefully my stepson will take to RC when he gets a bit older so that maybe we can enjoy this great hobby together. I am not going to force him though... it will be his choice, and for now, he chooses to do other things... of course he is only 6! LOL Heck, maybe my daughter will get into it as well.

Thanks guys for listening... I know this is pretty boring stuff to read.

Tom, that's totally awesome man. I'm sure that's a great feeling. I didn't have a father figure growing up but I'm I'm looking forward to those days far in the future when my children can look at me that way. Great little story bro. :)

Me too bro. My kids will always be my greatest accoplishment.

isn't great how electric guys evolved from telling time by hours or minutes, to telling it by packs.

"quarter to 6 packs"

I know... I don't even catch myself doing it anymore. It drives my wife nuts when she asks how long I will be gone and I tell her in a few packs!

Great story Tom, a bright spot for a Monday! You got it right, R/C is a great hobby!

You know it is one of the few activities that appeal to a broad age group and is truly something that has the ability to bridge the gap. It doesn't matter if your 10 or in Ed's case 101, RC is a great family activity.

I love taking my son out to play with our R/C's

He has a T-max as well

I love to see families doin stuff together like this

Amen my friend. In fact I am getting ready to paint my dads body to look like Jr.'s National Guard car. I am really enjoying this.

That story did my heart good. My Dad and I didn't build RC's together, but we built and restored classic cars, and we built a drag car and raced together. The memories that I have of us in the shop wrenching together, and the grin on my Dad's face when I cut a near perfect light the first night that I was driving at the dragstrip, could not be traded for anything in this world. Unfortunately, I lost Dad a few years back. We had such a good relationship, that I didn't ask God why he took my Dad when I was 18, I thanked God for blessing me with the relationship that we had for 18 years. I have gotten to know several of the members here who joined because they wanted to get involved with their kids, because I know what a difference that Dad and my relationship made in my life. If you ever get the chance to get involved in a hobby or something similar with your father, son, daughter, wife, or anyone close to you, please take full advantage of it. I know as well as anyone that things can be fine one day, and that person could be gone the next. When you share a bond over something like RC's, racing, playing "go fish" or whatever it is, you will always have those memories, and you won't have to look back and regret not taking advantage of the opportunity. Dad and I would get mad at each other over stupid stuff while doing a frame off rebuild of my baby (68 Chevy) but after throwing wrenches across the shop, we would share the biggest hug ever. I wouldn't give up those memories for a bazillion dollars. Tom, if I can ever help with anything on your dad's ride, please let me know. I just so happen to be running a sidewinder in my T4.
