OK, I'm breaking in the Savage 25 RTR and I'm full of questions (good or bad, I don't know, just be gentle with me!)

The RTR came with two clutch bells, I've got the 15 on it now (Which is how it came out of the box) but I was wondering about the 18 tooth bell that came with it too. Why does the 18 tooth bell say for on-road only?

It would seem that running it up and down the street I am maxing the engine rpm with the gearing now. I know I've only got about eight tanks through it, but I'm not hearing it shift yet and I was wondering about some of the wheelies I've seen other Savys do.

Should I swap to the 18 for more punch? Will it hurt running the 18 bell when I get into the dirt/off-road situation?

So, how does the bell gear number and the slipper or transmission gear number (if an extrnal two speed like my RS4) correlate?

The 18 tooth is for top end speed. While running the stock S-25 stay with the 15T. If you put the 18T on now, you will lose some low end.

Less teeth = more low end and torque. Quicker acceleration, wheelies.

More teeth = Higher top end speed and less punch off the line.

The opposite goes for the spur gear.

As far as shifting, either your not tuned properly and aren't getting enough torque to shift or you need to adjust your shift point.

Thanks Fast Eddy...

Perfect answer. You get the gold star today! :D

I know I need to lean it out a bit to get more speed out of it. I had it shifting once, around tank five, but it hasn't lately and I think it's just too fat...

Thanks...

Look at THIS CHART

Higher ratios = steeper = more acceleration

Lower ratios = taller = less acceleration, more top speed.

If you are running the S-25 you should stick with 15/49. You could run 16/49 if you want a little more top speed, but I would not gear any taller than that.

A gearing change usually requires a linkage adjustment. It also requires a shift point change if you want to maintain the same maximum RPM before a shift.

Thanks Rossb. Just printed it to put in my pit box. I have something similar for my RS4 gears and for shock/spring settings, but didn't see that on the HPI site.
