for a long time i was a strong strong supporter of the 3.3 engines. until i got my platinum. since starting racing this truck i have blown up 6 engines the last just happening this past weekend. well after paying over $100 per engine and buying 3 in the last 2 months i sent traxxas an e-mail expressing my anger. well guess what. they want the motor so they can tell me i ran it to lean like the several times before. and i stated in the e-mail to them that it ran lean because the block was cracking. DUH!!!!!!!! AIR LEAK HELLO!!!!!!!!!! and it is blowing in the weirdest place...the top of the block...from just above the exhaust outlet up...i mean there is part of the block attached to the head when it blows off. and the even funnier thing is i just shot the temp as a reference point for tuning and it was running 220 on a half a tank. well seeing as how traxxas does not want to back up there junkie assed engines i think it will reinstall my go tech 3 port back in the platinum. i am going to send the current engine back to them and i look forward to them telling me i ran it too lean. go figure.

as far as i am concerned traxxas can take there engines and shove them where the sun doesn't shine.

Wow that sucks dude. I never had a problem with any of my trx mills. Then again I don't run them to LEAN either. hahahahah :hehe::p::hehe::p: Sorry I had to!

You don't get any type of warning before this happens? Like a jump in temps or weird running in general? Have all 3 blown apart that way?

Any chance you've landed on the head a few times?

everytime that this has happened the motor shut down like it was out of fuel. so thinking that i walked over to go get it and see the results. as far as flipping i was running on my practice track and honestly no i did not flip or hit anything in any shape form or fashion. but i do recall on all the motors the cooling fins started falling off and shortly after that the motor would burp. to be honest and i told traxxas this until they do something super heading with there motors i am done with them. the truck it self is awesome but the engines leave alot to be desired to me now. of course i have out grown the 3.3 starter engine and possibly the 3.3 is not a long life motor if your going to race it. but who knows. all i know is 3 motors in the last 2 months i could have bought a new v-spec for that.

Yep. Although, being a racer, it might be better for you to get an OS 18TZ and bolt it in. Better fuel economy than a BB, more power and rev's than your 3.3 with a damn good name stamped on the side! ;)

Only real downside of the TZ is that you have to go bumpstart or pull-start. But again, as a racer, I don't really assume that your running the TRX ez-start on it anyway.

oh i am running a go tech sport motor...i get about 7 to 8 minutes of run time and a temp of 217 this evening on an empty tank. second tank when i tuned it a little it hit 245 so while i was blowing it off i thought i would check the head bolts seeing as how it has been several months since i had ran this motor. well i had 2 of the 4 bolts that were a little past snug but loose enough to allow a small air leak. so i tightened everyone down making sure it is re-sealed.
