is there a special trick to get these half open terminals to take a good soldering ? i can't get a .12g wire to stay on these terminals now matter what it try? every time i think they are connected, the fall right off. don't most motor terminals have an open hole to stick your wire through? these things are terrible. i'm open to any help or ideas you my have as to how to how to make them work.:angry:

You need a good iron. Radio Shack just won't do. Get the wire ends tinned, then tin the motor tabs. Then bring them together and don't move till you see the dullness flash over it.
 
so my bernzomatic butane iron wont' cut it? LOL ! i knew is should have stayed with nitro rigs, this electric is becoming a real pain to work on !

I really like my radio shack Iron too, i have never had any problems with it.

I certainly was. The stations are first rate.
With the motor tabs, don't even touch the iron to it till it's fully hot. Brush plumber's flux on the tab, then put a dot of solder on the clean tip. Hold that dot to the motor tab till it flows on. You should have your wire end all tinned and ready by now, so bring it against the motor tab till both ends flow into each other. Hold your breath and don't move till you see it crystallize.
Now, wasn't that easy? :)
 
thanks for all your help and input!! not having a good iron was about 70% of my problem and frustration !!! so i went down the block to one of our retried neighbors ( i drive by his garage everyday and all i see is it a wall of tools) and asked him if he had a good soldering station? 2 hours later and 3 cups of coffee later, he brings out his station, flux, solder ect and shows me how to do it! tinning is much easier when you have a good iron LOL ! he told me anytime i needed to use it all i have to do is ask ! gotta love small town America, and MN nice !:whhooo:

i'm happy with it, looks better that the globs of solder i had on it before !

couldn't agree more hamz !!!
 
Soldering is a skill that takes awhile to develop. I must of had to go back and redo at least the first dozen or so Deans connectors I ever did and half the time Id melt the deans lol. Now it litterally takes me 5 minutes or less to solder up a deans. Thats inclusing all the cutting, trimming, tinning heat shrink etc etc....
 
I really enjoy soldering, whether it's wire or solid brass stock. I think it's amazing getting metals to flow and fuse together.
I enjoy coffee even more.

I really like the way I can get the DIRT AND MUD to flow all over my truck......wait for it.........IT'S AWESOME:hehe:
