Hey guys, i was out running my Maxx in the snow today, and it was 30 degrees out so i put a baby sock oer the cooling head. Problem is, i couldnt use the sock anymore because the temps would not go down under 300 no matter how much i richened it. How do you guys do it?

Correct me if I'm wrong but dont you put something on the head so it stays hot??
Maybe you dont need the sock for the snow? i dont know havent done it before

You need the sock so it stays up to temps, around 250-270 on a 3.3. 300 Is way to hot.

Yeah i know what the socks for. But whats the temps without the sock?
I know 300 is too high

I have never ran in the snow before but would assume that if it is running without the sock fine and with good power that its running fine and not to worry about it. Or maybe, put all your needles back at factory settings with the sock on and tune from there. Again I have never done it and by no means want you to think I know what I am doing. Just what I would do.

Maybe try putting something different over the head??
Maybe even experiment with material over the head and needle settings? Try combinations?

I put the needles to stock setting which is suppose to be richer. Still was 300-321. kept richening it, but temps wouldnt go down.

Ok id say just have a look for something else to put on the head. Obviously the sock restricts too much air flow.

Try wrapping it with aluminum foil instead.

I don't use anything when I run my Savage, but I don't check the temp either.
I know earlier this week it was running a bit lean by how it sounded, but I only had a short time to run so I let it go. Haven't checked to see if I blew the glow plug yet.

Does it have to be over 200 to run it? I have no problem running it rich at factory setting with it under 200.?

If it runs good at 190F just let it be, that's fine.

^^ what he said. I ran my Nitro Sport with the 2.5r in the snow without anything over the fins and it was just fine. going from both extremes, with a 160 degree difference that must be a thick sock to insulate that well.

Try this as well, Use this foil tape with some holes in it that way the cooling fins get some cooling yet still mainting the temp to operations standards. Now keep in mind that you are not going to get summer time performance in 30 degree weather. Like said before try different materials. The foil tape works good for me.

That what I just read in my R/C Car Action, was to use duct tape or aluminum duct tape and wrap it around the head but not over the glow plug !
