Okay so not really but in a way I suppose. I have recently enrolled myself at my local ATC college for CNC Machinist 1. I have been talking to my regulars that do CNC work here (I am a clerk @ 7-11), and they are never out of work and making $22+ & $60+ DT1/2.
This is something that they say kids with ADHD could do & I am in luck, so beginning Febuary 6th, I start my new step path in my life to see and try for a real career. One of the machinists I talk to 'Cody' says the head guy that he works for, is the teacher at the school & he says he will help me get a job with him so the teacher can definatly keep his eyes on me.

I can't FU**ING WAIT!

Thought I would share that for anyone that gives a hoot

Congrats dude! I need to grow up too, bad, but I have no idea what I would go to college for, I'm not interested in anything lol. Hope it goes well for you man.

Yeah I felt just like that, my high school dreams never got close to workin out lol, so I didnt have the slightest clue. But hell its way cheaper than normal collages but it does not matter anymore....

If I dont like it, do something else.... I actually just realized that I would be able to CNC alloy parts for an RC of my liking! OH YA!!!!

& Thanks man I appreciate that alot :D

That's great man, congratulations. It's tough to nail down what you want for a career, and not just a job. Took me until I was in my 30's to do so, and I'm still not done with school yet as I've just sort of chipped away at it, and had a few set backs here and there. But you know what, no matter what I do when I finish, nobody can ever take the knowledge or the sense of accomplishment away from me. And if it helps me pay for my needed things in life, and my hobbies, even better. The one big thing I learned after having a job as a third generation heavy equipment operator was this; life truly is too short to do something you hate every day just because there's good money in it. But you have to have something you're interested in to put in the hard work and hours to learn any trade, get a degree, etc. If you're aren't interested in it and are just in it for the money (I started out as an engineering student and quickly lost interest), you'll burn out quick and be back to square one. Best of luck buddy, we're pulling for you!

Thats awesome man. I really need to do the same. I am 25 years old working for $10 a hour. Its really getting to me. But like you and SNG i have NO idea what i would go for and who would pay my bills if I did. Then there is my anxiety which controls my life and doesn't like change...

Dude!!!! Send me a freakin Slurpee! There's no 7-11 within 200 miles, and I'm dying for one. Last time I had one was in '03 or '04 when I was out in Oregon visiting family, and before that was in like '90 when I was at my mom's in San Diego.

Oh yea, and congrats on having a vision for your future. Send the Slurpee before you quit, lol!

Sometimes a technical school is a great idea. I graduated from one with a few IT certifications. I was making about $22 an hour for troubleshooting computers and networks. I also ended up as an instructor at that same school until the program ended. The best thing you can do is just keep going to class and don't miss a day if it is at all possible.

Good Luck!

Good luck with the adventure! Machinists by trade can do very well for themselves if they apply the knowledge! Hope the growing up thing works out for you!! I dont plan on ever doin it myself...... And nobody can make me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats buddy and yeah if you miss one day you will fall behind. They cram alot of stuff into one day at tech schools it's crazy. One thing that worked really well for me was just straight quitting smoking the wacky tabaccy, well I was in school. It helped me remember the lessons alot and helped with not procrastinating about doing homework and studying. There's alot of codes to remember in cnc just a heads up. But yeah I went to school to become a millwright, still looking for an apprenticeship right now so for now I just work in a metal shop making oil drilling parts. But I learned on manual mills and lathes, I do mostly welding and spot and fit polishing now, but every now and then I'll be on the cnc mills and lathes and it's not that hard at all to pick up. Just make sure your stock is in the chucks and fixtures very tight lol I made that mistake once thinking if I tightened to much I put a flat spot on a round stock. Needless to say it didn't turn out the way I wanted it too lol.

Congrats on getting a plan together, that is the first step! Good luck bro I wish you the best. When you start making all the "have to have" rc parts cut your RCNT family a good deal on them!

Haha thanks guys & LOL @ Phins

But yeah I do hope it works out and I definatly plan on persuing this to advance further into RC and maybe get my own hob up lines haha.

We will see how it goes!

CNC machining is good career IMO. Not very popular anymore,so there are more available jobs than qualified people to fill them. Good luck bro!

If you want to really be challenged in machining, become a toolmaker! :D

Good luck man. I've meet several people that are machinists and they loved it and made good money. There is a guy that's retired and is doing gun smithing in his garage and has a small cnc mill and lathe. I used to run a small cnc mill and I miss it.

I wish I knew what I also wanted to do. Congratulations on figuring out what you want to do.

Thanks, yeah I am so nervous but am super excited. I have never been excited about any advanced learning or school after I graduated because the world wasn't so fked up then, but its getting scary now and need to make a move.

Over the summer I though and thought and wondered if I could advance myself into a career, and still keep it related to RCs. Well damnit, I think I found it :D
