Get yourself a failsafe or upgrade your controller/receiver to a good one that has a built in failsafe.
There are other reasons besides a built in failsafe to upgrade your radio - but at a minimum a failsafe like Ofna's micro unit is cheap (under 20 bucks on eBay) insurance.

get a spektrum dx3s. plus it has built in telemetry.

as for upgrades.

in order

hump pack
ht servo
fail safe or new radio
a good pipe
DRIVE THE SNOT OUT OF IT

Got a Spektrum 3.0 that should be on it's way, installed a 333 oz servo for steering, stole the hump pack out of my Speed-NT. Driving the snot out of it, did my first rc backflip yesterday with it.

For the record, I LOVE IT!

And I sheared the spur gear today while doing some jumps in front of the house.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure the failsafe in the SR3100 only works for receiver drop out not low voltage.

newbie with a savage x

whats a failsafe? is a hump pack to replace the 4 aa's in thee truck? would like a li-po or li-ion to replace 8 aa's in controller- drove my truck 1/2 miletrying to get it to turn, then 1/2 mile the other way, only to find out it wasn't turning because controller batteries were dying. Is that a common problem, or are my steering servos goin south? also wondering how fast i'm supposed to be able to go- got a shop to break it in for me, and its running too lean-get only a cpl or three tanks of fuel burnt before plug is fouled- costs $8 per glo-plug at nearest store- and after running 1/2 tank off at 3/4 throttle(average) i'm sitting at about 260-270 F. Havent cut a hole in windshield yet, but hoping just riching up the mix(1/4 turn back on hi-speed screw) will keep temps down. Also, put baffle in muiffler- doesn't seem quieter but doesn't seem slower either. didnt check temp but batt's in controller died before running off 1/2 tank. Anyone know where I can get a Maximum Destruction body? or a Goldberg body and Max-D decals?
Any help you all can offer free of snide comments pls- as i said I'm new to this nitro thing- just got 2 stroke weed wacker going and that took me forever.
Thanks

Thread jacking is a good way to find snide comments.;) Fresh batteries are a must in the controller and receiver. A hump pack replaces the 4aa's and adds to run time and servo performance. You should definitely cut some air holes in the body. Running overly rich, even at a decent temp, will kill glow plugs just as fast as running lean. Check out Proline and Parma for bodies.
