Anything I should think about replacing or upgrading right away? I'm already considering the extended chassis kit. Other than that, what do you guys think?

Ohh that sounds like a superb idea, I also like upgrading tires/rims & a lid before much else.

its brand new, the only thing i would do is add a hump pack, failsafe, high torque steering servo, and drive it like you won it.

a better radio would help if you dont have one you plan on using.

the savage is tough as nails, but doesn't handle all that well. a longer chassis is just going to make it worse. you may want a wheelie bar on there, but i would just have fun with it and then after getting a feel for it, you can upgrade stuff you want to change.

Hump pack and failsafe are on the list, been looking at 2.4g radios, dunno about the servo yet though. What is a good servo for a decent price?

If you don't mind used,I've got a Hobbico CS-170,3330z @6.0v servo I'll sell you for $45 shipped. I got it from SNG here but I need cash for my 1:1 truck project I'm picking up this week sometime.

Got a horn on it, or will the one on the Savage work? And how used is it?

I'm going to toot my own horn right now.

I have futaba failsafe's for sale. If you need one hit me up in a pm. I have a used one and some new ones.

PM'd

And is there a short course body that fits on the Savage?

Randy I have the same servo in my Savage...mine was the kit so I had a couple servo horns with the truck....but I am pretty sure it will work. If no,t no big deal get a new alloy arm from GH (they are dead sexy) also to talk up the servo for Randy it's a heck of a piece. I use it in three of my rides right now. Never burnt one up. Very strong.

like beason said the truck is super durable. I recommend the spektrum DX3s. It's a little pricey, but once you get it you won't need another radio. Plus it has telemetry and failsafe. and if i'm not mistaken all the 2.4 stuff has failsafe built in. and a 330 oz. servo for 45 shipped? that's a steal. the factory steering servo gets the job done, but it never hurts to go bigger...congratulations on the win and let us know if you run into any problems...good luck bro

Adeezy is right. The DX3S does have a failsafe built in. I have all my trucks on it. You may find a decent price for it on evil-bay, tho. there isn't much neede on the Savvy that needs upgrading, but I would go bigger on the steering servo if you plan on some good hard bashing. Just cuz u won it doesn't mean you can't DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!! :D

Got the failsafe and servo, just gotta get the truck to put them in.

whats a failsafe? I'm new to this..:)

A failsafe protects your rc in the event that the signal goes haywire, or the batteries go dead. They come either programmable, or pre-programmed to kill the throttle or come to a complete stop if you lose control.

Did the good old cut and paste.

"Used in gasoline or nitro RCs as a way to make sure you don't suffer the consequences of an out-of-control RC doing 30+ mph, a fail safe unit is connected between the receiver and throttle servo of the RC. It monitors the connection between the transmitter and receiver for disruption and/or interference -- as well as total battery pack strength. Failures such as lost signal, frequency interference, or low battery will automatically engage the vehicle braking system, stopping or slowing down the RC."
