I'm still deciding whether or not I like studded tires... We have them on all our cars, and in the FWD cars, they seem to be fine. But in my RWD truck, (I do have 4wd though) I can't stand the studs... They are great in the snow and thick ice, but they are horrible on the street. Yesterday, I almost rear-ended someone because they pulled out in front of me, and I put on my brakes, (not even really hard at all) and I skidded for 10' before the tires regained traction. Also, pulling onto a road is the worst, I have to go soooo slow if I don't want to spin the tires. Which is a good thing for MPG in my truck with the 5.9L V8, lol.
But, I think it's a combination of:
A.) it's a RWD pick-up truck
B.) There's no weight in the bed
C.) The tread pattern isn't as aggressive as the studded tires on our other cars
The studs do work great in my neighborhood where it's really hilly, and they don't plow the roads though. But, since the roads aren't plowed, I usually have the 4WD engaged...
Either way, I think I would've been fine with my BFG T/A's...
P.S. I ran the buggy out in the snow today, and I couldn't get any traction at all, couldn't get it above 30mph because it was so slippery...when I did manage to get it that high, I'd hit the brakes, and it'd just slide for a good 30' or so, lol. My temp gun said it was -10 F outside, lol.
