Good morning to all-
Well, the snow having stopped overnight- we got an all-time record snowfall for this region, by the way- and the sun shining right down and the wind being light, I figured that I'd take my Turbo Timber down to the flying field and see what sort of trouble I could get myself into. After all, the real STOL planes like the Turbo timber fly in snowy conditions, so...
Fellers, the little plane did quite well once takeoff was achieved. Now, even with it's big soft tires, it would not roll enough through the soft, powdery snow to take off. But set her in a firm car tire track, and she took right off. Flying was easy, but I'd like to warn you all- tracking a small white airplane over fresh snow with brilliant sun overhead can be a challenge.
Landing the plane in snow was just as much a problem as taking off. when landing in soft snow, the tires dug in and the plane flipped over on its top. but landing in a firm tire track was a snap- easy to do and quite effective.
So I flew until my fingers began to burn from the cold, so I landed her again, and then I walked home to a nice cup of hot cocoa- with marshmellows, if you please.
