when i run my savage occasionally i see smoke which looks like it coming from the head when i temp it towards the glow plug it reads from 280 - 310 but when i temp it on the top fin of the head it reads 225-275
Mega maxx has the same temp guage as me and when he temps it at the glow plug it says the same as when i temp it on the top fin give or take

i'm not totally sure whether the smoke is from overheating or fuel/oil i spilt on the side of the crankcase

Engine: nosram rs.28
fuel: tornado buggy +MT 25% nitro 14% oil?
setting factory: 4 HS 3.5 LS
my setting: 3.5 HS 3.5 LS

any ideas the engine has only done 4 tanks break in and about 10-15 tuned so i dought its an air leak

Air leaks can start at any time so don't count that out. When you measure temp measure at the glow plug not the top fin.

i normally measure from the glow plug i just think it weird the mega maxx get the same reading when he measures from the glow plug and i measure from the top fin

Yup. Take the temp at the glow plug. From the looks of it you're running a bit hot. I'd say richen it about 1/8 turn and it should be a bit more stable.

the thing is if i richen it the performance goes i think i'm going to take the engine out and wipe off all the oil residue and tighten all the bolts and go from there i'll post in a few hours to tell you if it worked or not i think my temp guage may be out

re-tightened all the bolts and wiped the oil off it seems to be running rich lots of oil spitting out didn't have enought fuel to get it up to temp so hopefully its sorted now
i think the backplate screws must have worked loose normally need to use pliers on the allen key but they undid with barely any effort

think its sorted ran a tank through and struggled to get it upto 257 which was the hottest it got

if you have that problem again...use some gasket sealant on any places that air could leak from.
