smart temp fail safe

it could be. really if you tune it right and watch the temps its not needed
but on the other hand if the truck gets a air leak while driveing you no right away and not damage the engine

Waste of money. Buy a regular temp gun and use it frequently until you can begin to tell just by sight and sound the engine is operating properly.

It acts as a traditional fail-safe, which all experienced RC owners will tell you is a must. The fact that it has a temperature cut-off is even better for someone new to the hobby.
I'm not sure how accurate the temp monitor part of it is, but I really like the hand held IR temp guns. I think it's pretty cool that they combined both into one unit and I would think it would be a decent investment.

If you decide not to get it, make sure you still get a radio fail-safe. They are much smaller and usually fit in the receiver box.

I have a hand held Raytek temp gauge, but I added the Venom on-board unit as a back up.
With an occasional dusting, it still looks like new. :hehe:

i would go with a seperate temp gun and a seperate failsafe. every time you wanna check the temp you have to take of the body ... its better to buy a micro failsafe like the ofna and a seperate temp gun. saves more time. &+ i heard alot of bad things about the venom smartemp. theres some threads on here about it.

think about it
venom smartemp= about 40$$ and you might get a chance of a runaway.
Ofna micro failsafe+ir temo gun=60$ well yeah shure 20 bucks more but hey, your guarrented of no runaway.;)

Great Idea.

I wanted to bump this thread back up because thankfully, i'm not the only new to nitro, revo bashing air monger on this forum.

I initially blew off the importance of temp monitoring and am now a believer. you need something to really keep your nitro burning mill at it's peak. I went with on board simply because I only have one car and it's one less think i need to carry in my kit bag. As far as having to take body off, clever mounting on side of servo makes it a quick and easy peak to check. I have watch others with hand held temp guns fumble with temp gun in one hand, transmitter in the other trying to get a read and the time it took to do so was very inconsistent meaning the readings were going to be inconsistent. Plus a temp gun, unless your real fast, won't give you peak temps. I wish I would have know about the temp failsafe when i was looking. Veteran tuners will tell you not to waist the money, their ears are all they need to know something is going wrong. The rest of us should probably have a back up. So if are in the market for a temp indicator, and a failsafe, I say why not kill two birds with one stone. My next car will definately have it.

Ok, never say never...since this post was made i learned some new stuff and will have to retract this statment. yes, i still like on board real time temp monitoring but i've been checking out the spektrum radio and telemetry capabilities that has me leaning more toward on board sensors, hand held monitoring.
