hay guys,
I just got my new savage, and i broke it in according to the specs.. I'm on the 3rd tank now. Still with the factory settings for HIGH/LOW.. But I'm consernd that i did something wrong, beucase it seems to not go into second gear, and is really sluggish, I know i need to run though another 2 tanks before i start adjusting the high end. But i would like to know if this is normal. I live in Las Vegas so the are is pretty dri. i know that has something to do with it. I noticed a little bit of smoke from the stinger.. and when the tank is just about out of gass it starts to "scream" down the road... So i know the motor has the power somewhere in it. just needs tuning. Is everyone experiancing the same problem?

any help would be great. I just want to know if tunning will slove the problem

This is completly normal. When I broke in my S-25 it could push the Savage to 10 MPH tops and couldn't get it up a 10* Incline. On your 4th and 5th tanks the engine should start to make more power, and when you lean it out to the optimal settings, you should get even more. The exaust you are seeing is good, because there is enough extra fuel vapor traveling through the engine in excess, so some just gets blown out unburned. The savage tank tends to lean out the engine towards the bottom, so I wouldn't worry about it.

BTW, when I had my Savage new I took it on vacation with me to Las Vegas, It loves the dry weather. Just make sure to run your air filter at all times.

nice... so i just need to run it a couple more tanks, and then start tunning it? and everything should be fine??

I know the smoke is a good thing.. I just wonder if maybe i was doing something wrong since it seems to have little power.. but if this is common than GREAT< i can't wait to finish the break in, and start tunning it...

You are running with the very rich break in settings so you will be down on power. When the fuel level drops your motor is leaning out due to there being less fuel in the tank. Less fuel in the tank means less air pressure in the tank (from the exhaust pressure line). Lower tank pressure means less fuel gets to the motor and a leaner mixture is the result.

The self-lean issue caused by fuel level can actually cause you tuning problems. The easiest solution is the uniflow mod. See my build page for details.
