Anyone know what would cause the trans to just spin and then all of the sudden catch again?

Anyway, I have RRP gears in the trans (FOC, forward primary, two speed top shaft) and I'm running a 21 on it but I only have the rear diff in. After I wrap it out in second and come to a stop, I touch the throttle and the engine just rev's, then I gently touch the throttle a couple times (on then off) and all of the sudden, the trans engages and it goes. It doesn't do it all the time and today is the first time I noticed it doing it at all.

Is my one-way going or what? Any clues before I crack it open? It appears that everything outside the trans is fine, like the clutch and spur spin. If I roll the truck all cvd's are working and nothing is slipping.

If I keep it slow enough to not shift into second, it doesn't do it at all. It's only after I shift into second then let off.

Things that I know are ok:
Rear diff is fine, a little sloppy but functional.
Clutch is new (1/8 3 shoe clutch)
Spur gear is fine and locked down (RC-Solutions spur)
CVD's are fine.
Wheel Hex's and pins are fine.

After looking at the list, I'd think it's the one way, but who knows...

Thanks.

Do you have reverse? If so, check the throws on the shift servo linkage. It's likely you would also notice it during take-off, but you never know.
Do you hear a whizzing noise, like teeth slipping, or do you just get higher RPMs without more forward speed?
Also, does it do it when the clutch bell is cold, or only after running for a while?
If it only does it when the clutch is hot, it's slipping there. I've had it happen.

I just re-read your post. No reverse.
I would still check the clutch for sticking or slipping before I'd open the trans.

No reverse and it did it cold. It sounds completely clean when it's rev'ing aimlessly. No grinding or anything, just free spinning. Then all of the sudden, it locks in.

I know it isn't the clutch. If anything, the clutch is what caused the internal problem. I just converted to a 1/8 clutch and spur setup and it hooks up something fierce. Unfortunatly, I think the one way paid for it...

When it's not engaging, the spur just spins and spins. With it being an RC-Solutions tempered spur and a hardened CB, it sings a pretty tune.
