Well, I didn't get the slipper clutch tight enough on my T-Maxx 2.5 and ended up slightly melting the spur gear. Oops. Picked up a new gear and pegs. I noticed that the Traxxas assembly docs show only 6 pegs used but my Nitro Stampede and Maxx both had all 12 pegs installed when I got them. Is it better to install 12 (for more surface area) or 6 (more pressure per peg) to get less slip. This is all based on getting it tightened down correctly in the first place. For some reason, I had it in my head to tighten the nut all the way down and back it off 1/2 turn instead of 1/4 turn. Lesson learned.

12 pegs allows the slipper to be used as a slipper. With only 6, they would melt very quickly with any slipping so you were forced to run the setup locked down.

Like helotaxi suggests, 12 gives you more of an actual slipper than 6. What engine are you running?

A buddy of mine just put a 2.5R in his maxx and it ran like poo for about a gallon. Then he ran out of fuel. I had no idea, but he was running 10% nitro! I had 3 gallons of 25% and he asked if he could buy one... then he asked if it mattered.

Well, he spun the guts out of his spur within minutes (6-pegs), I had to pretty much lock it down to keep it from just slipping when it hit 2nd gear. Now all is well and that 2.5R is a real runner. I run the same fuel in my 2.5 in my jato and it works well with the old 2.5 as well.

It's a 2.5. I did put all 12 pegs in, locked it down and backed off 1/4 turn. Now I can easily get the front end off the ground. Thanks for the advice.
