Well my Slash came in a couple of hours ago. I pulled the ESC,Motor and servo to do a Rolex on it. Now that's it back together I'm trying to test the electronics but I'm gettting nothing. So being an electric newbie here's the questions:

1 There is no on/off switch inline from the battery, is that normal?
2 When you plug in the battery should the LED light up?
3 What/how do use the SET on the ESC?

It is not the stock Slash ESC, it's the Traxxas XL5. The wires on the plug were damaged and I had to repair it. The battery is a fresh charged Dynamite 2000mAh 6-cell pack. Any more info needed? Cam post pics of anything needed too.

Heres a program run down I got off the net.

Selecting Profile #1 (100% Forward, 100% Brakes, 100% Reverse):
1. With the ESC off and the battery
plugged in, turn on the transmitter
with the throttle at neutral.
2. Press and hold the set button. The
LED will turn green, then change
to red and then turn off. Continue
holding the set button (A).
3. When the LED blinks red ONCE (B),
release the set button (C).
4. The LED will turn solid GREEN
(D), indicating the profile
programming is complete.

Selecting Profile #2 (100% Forward, 100% Brakes, No Reverse):
1. With the ESC off and the battery
plugged in, turn on the transmitter
with the throttle at neutral.
2. Press and hold the set button. The
LED will turn green, then change
to red and then turn off. Continue
holding the set button (A).
3. When the LED blinks red TWICE (B),
release the set button (C).
4. The LED will turn solid GREEN
(D), indicating the profile
programming is complete.

Selecting Profile #3* (50% Forward, 100% Brakes, 50% Reverse):
This profile is provided to reduce the
power output allowing beginning
drivers to better control the model. As
driving skills improve, simply change to
profile #1 or #2 for full-power operation.
1. With the ESC off and the battery
plugged in, turn on the transmitter
with the throttle at neutral.
2. Press and hold the set button. The
LED will turn green, then change
to red and then turn off. Continue
holding the set button (A).
3. When the LED blinks red THREE times (B), release the set button (C).
4. The LED will turn solid GREEN (D), indicating the profile programming
is complete.

Ok, so there is supposed to be an on/off switch?
There is a reverse? If so how do I switch to reverse when driving?
Which slot does the ESC plug into?

Profile one is the one with full reverse. If I recall it has either a reverse delay or you have to hit it twice, so breaks is once then twice is reverse. I can't remember where the switch is on one, I havent had one for a long time and it was in a scaler of mine. The esc goes into the throttle or channel 2.

I have an extra on/off switch. Do I just plug it inline from the ESC to to rx?

Lloyd, thanks for your help! I gotta go run an errand then I"ll be back and see what I can do with the info you provided

I think the switch on them is the little button on the esc....I'm pretty sure.

Keep an eye on the shock bolts...and the rear hinge pin screws. Both notorious for loosening up EVERY time I run em. Keep that Slash motor clean too and it will run for awhile......oh yeah and don't bother putting anything bigger than a 19T pinion on it...or you WILL smoke the motor unless you only run it downhill. I ran a 23T for @ 4 min of a 5 min qualifier....motor was smoked and only had 2 runs on it. Go figure Traxxas puts a 23T pinion in the box too....then they yell at me for overgearing it. lol
