Slash Tear down process

what does everyone use as a tear down process? how do you setup your work area? what tools do you use? how do you clean parts? what other maintenance do you do to the slash?

I do all my tear downs here on my bench

One of my favorite "tools" are the two magnetic trays and you see them in the above picture hanging on the wall in the upper right corner (round and rectangle trays) I can keep all my screws in those trays w/o having to worry about them rolling around on the bench.

As for tools, I use the assortment of tools hanging there on the wall but if you're just doing the Slash then the Dynamite Toolset for the Slash is a perfect fit - in fact we've already given away two of them here on RCSCT and plan on giving more away!

For cleaning supplies I use a mixture of simple green and water and I also use denatured alcohol.

thanks for the info. i had problems with my basement last summer and have been in process of getting things reorganized. my tools are scattered as well. hopefully i can get my bench put back together and tools organized before I start a tear down.

If it is an option for you, warm/hot water with a dishwashing sponge and some dishsoap works very well for cleaning the plastic parts on rc cars. My girlfriend hates when I'm cleaning my stuff in the kitchen sink though... The dishsoap cuts through grease and grime very well, and cleaning with water as opposed to chemicals (i.e. motor spray) will not harm the plastic at all.

Woodie's tip for the magnetic trays is a great one. I found some small trays at a local Target that are plastic with a rubberized bottom. They are available in a variety of sizes and are very cheap.

I bought an RPM Bearing Blaster a few weeks ago and it works awesome. When cleaning bearings, use an x-acto to pop out the seals on your bearings to flush out all of the grit. Rather than a light grease, I use a light oil to lubricate the bearings before putting the seals back on.

Woodie- my only complaint with the Dynamite set is that the 7mm nutdriver is too large on its O.D. to fit into the stock Slash wheels. Other than that, great set and price also.
