sirio or novarossi?

I used o'donnel for a while. I didn't like the performance on the new engine. It was great during break-in but seemed to bog down after break-in was done, even afer retuning. Since then, I've been running Byron's 20% and the "snap" is back in the engines that I use. I guess it's a hit or miss. There's lot's of variables for performance but preference is also key. Byron's also seems to burn cleaner and doesn't have that funky smell of O'donnels.

I don't see how it's the air filter. As long as the filter is filtering out all the particles in the air, there should be no reason that's the cause. I don't use any oil in my filters and they seem to work just fine.

Personally, if you ask me, it's a tuning issue.
dude you need to oil your filter the reason is to catch the fine dirt and dust your going to do damage to your cylinder and piston the fine dirt and dust is really abrasive you should start oiling yours!!!

Why are you tunning by temp? All engines are different, My Sirio ran @ 235-240 and that was lean screamin, My Nova-Mugen (Novarossi I think) likes to run 220-230, and my Pull start engines liked to run 260-270, and my 2.5 was convinced on running 290 with the stock head so all engines are different so don't tune by temp. Good luck.

and on the filter issue, on-road vs offroad are two different stories. Onroad I dont even use a zip tie on my filter where if you did this in off-road you are playing Russian Ruelette (sp?).

Yeah something isn't right here. They can't be toast in a week. I have never owned either engine, but it is my guess as well that 270 is way too hot, and it needs richened up. You may have done some damage if you didn't brake it in well, but my guess is 12 tanks of heat cycling was OK. The only .21 I have is an OS VZB, and it runs 220-240 (depending on temp and humidity) when tuned correctly. JUst my $0.02

I've been using O Donnel for about a year now with no issues and less plug fouling.

You probably know all of this but, oiling the filter will help filter out more of the small particles and give your engines longevity. 270 degrees...is that temp taken at normal running conditions as in tuning or racing conditions right after a heat? When I tune my engines I try to keep the benchmark temp at about 220-230. A little leaner when I’m looking for that extra little bit of power. Engines will get much hotter than that obviously at high rpms for extended periods of time. Always set the piston at bdc when you shut it off or or you will end up loosing the tight tolerance needed for higher compression.

As for Novarossi or Sirio engines, both are high quality manufactures. Pick the one that you want. Remember if it’s for racing it will usually be the best driver that wins providing the car dose not fail.

For the Turbo comment SLo I am running a turbo RB Rody Roam it's been thru 4 races & still going strong on the same tune setup I gave it 4 weeks ago. you have to watch your tunning methods majority racers are you using 30% & some break in the engine in @20% then go to 30%. I've enjoyed nova rossi engines I heard a lot of issues with sirio I would stick with the Nova rossi. Also on any engine watch out for air leaks that might be your problem

That is a good point on the Fuel %. I would always break in with 20, then switch to 30. Also when and if you switch to 30% with a new engine you should run with the extra head shim untill you dicice you have started to loose compression. Then you can tak the extra shim out to raise it back up to get an extra gallon or two out of an engine.

I just purchased a sirio kanai edition got it broke in and is running great thanks for everbodys advice it was very helpfull

I just pulled apart the novarossi 421b and the piston and sleeve look brand new there are no grooves or pits on either one just wondering do i need to pull the crank out and clean the motor case and carb really good or can i just re-pinch and oil the filter?

so i should take everything out of the case and clean everything should i use soap and water or something like a carb cleaner?Should i oil the parts when clean? If so what kind of oil do i use?

I would disassemble the engine. Soak the parts in denatured alcohol; use a soft brush and a clean towel. Use compressed air to finish the job. You can use a small amount of after run oil when putting it back together

I dunno, when i reassembled my novarossi after getting it pinched, I drowned it in after-run oil. It just took a few minutes for the engine to burn it all up :)

so you didn't take it all apart you just put after run oil in the case and in the sleeve?

no he is saying that after he got it pinched, you still have to take it apart and clean it. There could be dust in the engine and what not so I would take it apart and clean it up then drown it in aro.

Well I took the whole engine apart. Only things i didn't take out is teh bearing and the con-rod from the piston (just cuz i can't figure out how...lol). But I also completely dismantled the carb and cleaned it.

I blasted everything with nitro clean and then put it back together. I made sure to put on plenty of after-run oil.
