Besides, it's what's underneath that counts.

What is on your engine>?

Naw, it's an clamp held in place by a piece of aluminum.

I was more curious about these items I circled.

The white disks at the front and rear

The duct tape and baling wire looking thing around the battery pack.

and the stock traxxas bumper protecting the rear shock tower.

Well, if you must critisize my non-stock approach...

The white discs are actually rubber door stoppers instead of bumpers. I've ripped off about 4 sets of bumpers and was tired if dealing with the screws/bolts that held them on being all f'd up.

The upside down bumper on the rear gives me more clearance between the roll-bar, the engine and the ground on a bad roll-over. I've ripped the rear off of 4 bodies in as many months so i gave up and run the half body. Stock body mounts rip apart on roll overs, so i used the rear bumper instead. It has lasted me 2 months worth of bad driving.

The bailing wire and duct tape actually isn't either of those. I made my own 5 cell aa NiMH battery packs sealed in balloons for waterproofing and wrapped in 3 layers of electrical tape for protection from vibration holes. I had to cut the top and side off the battery box to set them in. The black strap coming over the battery pack is a rubber strap to hold it in. All of which works well and dry. It's also quick to replace with a new pack.

There are 2 posts sticking up on the side of the truck by the bat box. One is to slip the rubber battery hold down over to retain it. The other is a threaded rod that i use to mount my half body on with.

The alumium sheild with a hose clamp on it around the head is to help on sub-freezing days to keep the temps up around 180. It adds about 30-40 degrees. I don't use it on days when it's above 30 out. Without it, i have to overlean the engine to stay around 180. With it, i can bash all day without any worries.

If you've read any of my posts, you may have realized i don't use a by the book approach with much of anything i do. Especially with the maxx. I do what works and what works well. Regardless of looks, my truck runs all day long without so much as a hickup.

By the way, with the rubber door stoppers as bumpers, i hit a concrete wall at top speed (roughly 40mph) and didn't hurt a damn thing. I have bad depth perception.

Besides, who wants to look like everyone else?

Oh come on olds97_lss, I'm just bustin up your balls a bit for fun. The best part is the 1/2 body and the door stops. That's an origianal(door stops).

Good job Olds, very inventive. The heat sink thing I kind of figured was due to the reason you gave.

What's so cool about this hobby is exactly that, the inventiveness of you guys.

I was only kidding. But to avoid looking like an idiot, i thought i'd explain the "why" for the stuff I have made.

I don't care. I figured I'd get some ribbing about it. I figure if I replace the same thing more than twice, it needs something different. And I'm lazy. I don't like working on it if i don't have to.

I do have to rethink the door stopper thing. It looks retarded. I just need to find a hunk of black rubber somewhere and form it a bit to make it just as effective, but less stupid.

Doesn't anyone else run half bodies? I keep ripping mine apart. @ $25 a wack, I just cut it off and mount it differently. I still have the original body from 9 months ago.

It still protects the electronics and the front shock tower. Also makes it still resemble a truck.
