hey guys well had the ole tmaxx out today and when i bought it (used) i knew the shocks were pretty bad well out at the park today i lost two as they finnaly failed one ripped the ball joint off and the shock cap is gone shock body is nowhere to be found and the 2nd one i dunno wat hapopened it just wont pull back in

what would you guys recomend big bores or the xxl??
and also is there a difference betwwen pro.15 and 3.3 shocks in stroke length or just overal length

I have the big bore shocks on my 3.3 and if I had it to do over again I would spend the extra $$ for a set of threaded aluminum shocks with the adjuster nuts. Also the springs on the big bore shocks are too soft. I had to buy stiffer springs all around.

EDIT: also, stay away from the integy threaded aluminum shocks with the resevior, unless you like leaky shocks.

ok well i found dome traxxas big bores will these be tough and work good?

Oh they are tough. I have hammered mine with no problems. But be prepared to get stiffer springs or shim the wee outta the stock ones to keep your ride from squatting.

yeah thanx for the help man wish i could get some other opinions as well

If you want tough the best ones to get are Kyosho 777 shocks...I run those on my maxxes, but it's going to cost about 250 for 8 shocks...
the pro-line bypass setup is nice too but runs around 75-100 depending on their popularity at the time.....
the OFNA supershocks are the same as the Unlimited engineering supershocks...I think they use longer shafts though....you can get 4 supershocks for around 60 bucks on fee-bay...I find if I use CVDs and RPM arms the A-arms flex too much and you get axles spitting out all over the place on rough terrain, so you end up making a dummy bypass shock just to keep the arms level...
The big bores are nice, best bang for the buck, I like the softer shocks personally...on the track it keeps you from rolling in the turns...if you are a jumper you'd definately want stiffer springs....you can also get the RPM dual stage piston heads and they react alot better...the heads are around 5 bucks a set from teh LHS.....
I know my post seems biased to ya but this is what I have always said about shocks..hope it helps, and no pressure meant

Well I got the truck back from the shop and the spur gears seem to be holding up. I'm looking for my first up grade and i also was looking into shocks. I know that is a broad decision which one i want. I'm looking to play around some flat dirt. Like a track small jumps and bumps. What the best all around shock for something like that without paying more than the truck.

how well do the rpm dual piston sets work??

I have the Proline Powerstrokes. THey are awesome. I changed from stock shocks with RC Raven dual rate springs. IMO if you do go for the Big Bores get some dual rate springs. Those alone made a huge difference in handling.
But the Powerstrokes are awesome. I spent $110 on them shipped and they were worth every penny!!

yeah well i bought some big bores from plaidfish for 35 shipped but where can i get these "dual-rate springs"

Plaid is on the money. I've had a few maxx's and ran the gamut on shocks. A buddy of mine went with the big bores and I realized I should have as well. I went with UE supermaxx shocks, but just four. They held up great, but finding a good balance between too soft and too stiff was difficult with just 4 shocks.

The big bores are built really well much like good 1/8 buggy shocks. Far better than stockers.

The only dual rates I know of anymore are Full Force Rc's.

Damn, Plaidfish is hookin people up these days. I just got his whole Mini-T lot for a killer price too. I have to give it up for him and say, Thanks to him for a great deal on a great package!!

LOL..thanks...I have WAY too many toys these days....I've been putting extras in all the boxes I've sent out so far....except charlie's (sorry charlie, just didn't have anything extra you could use on a savage or maxx)....but the RPM pistons made a huge difference on the first set I used

http://www.rpmrcproducts.com/products/traxxas/MaxxPts.htm#Pistons

you have to mod them to fit but it's worth it...you can control bound and rebound rates by mixing the halves together.....cheap mod and it made mine feel like a 200 dollar set of shocks......
