RC Driving Style
It's nice to have a place to come to and ask question about a certain truck now... Anyway... I got it running good now, it idles for about 2 minutes before it starts to die. It has a good take-off and top speed but I have one problem. When it hits 2nd gear and I slow to a stop it stays in 2nd and won't drive, it takes about a minute for it to switch back to 1st and allow me to take off.

Any way to fix this???
 
I would smash it and get a Savage personally, but if you want to keep your T-Maxx i would open up the tranny and make sure nothing is binding.
 
I spent all day tearing things apart and making sure it was right, I didn't check the tranny, but it's done that since the day I got it...
 
Sounds to me like the tranny needs to be taken down and possible lubed a bit and check for binding spots.

If it drives fine and shifts fine but wont downshift, then your problem IS in fact in that tranny. Just a matter of finding out whats going on in there.

Check your primary and secondary gears thoroughly!!

What if it's not the tranny causing the truck to do this? Are there any other possibilities that I don't know about?

Of course it was!!!

Do you notice any binding in the drive train with the wheels off the ground? If the two speed machanism isn't gummed up or something is loose in it, binding could cause it not to shift. All it is, is a little arm that sticks out and catches a pin. Inertia makes it come out as the trans spools up to speed. But if you have some sort of constant pressure (binding) on the trans, the little arm will stay extended.

Also, how early is it shifting? You should be pretty close to full RPM before it shifts. If it's set to soft (early shifting), it doesn't take much for it to stay stuck.

I know when I tore my trans down to clean it the first time, I set the shift point way to soft. I forgot to count the revolutions of the set screw when I took it apart, so I best guessed it. It was hitting second almost immediatly, then it didn't want to drop out of second.
 
I agree with olds97, in that the set screw is probably out of adjustment. It may be shifting too early and then the spring (that the set screw controls) does not have enough tension to force the shift arm back up into its groove. First thing I would do is turn that adjuster screw 1/2 turn (clockwise) and try it again.

Of course, if your tranny is already shifting into second at an appropriate rpm, then you should take the tranny apart and see if that shift arm is binding.
