Is it possible to shave the shaft that connects to the connecting rod where the pullstart goes. I have a easy start to my old t maxx and I would like to use it on my O.S. Max but the nut with the bearing on it is to small in diameter to fit the shaft on the O.S.. Can I shave the shaft from the O.S. so the smaller nut and bearing would fit or will it weaken the shaft.

You would need to be real carefull in this area. First you need to be 100% sure he starter system will fit to the engine case. Next you need to understand that the nut you are refering to is the one way bearing (if we are thinking the same thing). The end of the crankshaft extending beyound the crankcase could be machined down ut it would need to be precision machined on a lathe to an exact diameter to properly fit the bearing or you would pretty much lunch the crankshaft. I would recommend being extremely carefull in this area.

yeah it is the one way bearing, and thanks for the info because it will not line up.

I would definitely leave this job to machine shop professionals. Home users with even a high-quality Dremel still have no way to judge the high tolerances that machine work like this demands.

when you are shaving your shaft, be sure to use a quality shave gel, it will reduce the risk of nicks and cuts...go slowly, you don't want to get careless, look down and see your shaft bleeding.

I have my wife to do that for me, but thanks for caring about me shaving my shaft, its very thoughtful. Tips: I use the new quatro 4 and a shaving gel with lanonin. That way I can get the closes shave. No wonder they call you the motivational speaker.

I don't know if "shaving the shaft" is the correct terminology. Cylindrical grinding would be appropriate. If you could accurately grind the shaft to the proper diameter, you would remove the thin case hardening on the shaft. This would accelerate its wear abilities where it contacts the clutch bearing (one way bearing) and cause premature failure.
