Setting Up a RS4 3 Evo

Ok I have found a few other people running RS4's at my club but we are basically beginers. Firstly what I would like to know is what equipment is needed to finely tune a car. So far we are looking at a toe, caster, camber setup station and a temp gun but is there any other pieces of equipment that would help us. We are pooling money so any sugestions??

As to setting up a RS4 3 Evo I have a few questions. I seem to have a problem with the car spinning the wheels on the straight. There isn't any real oversteer problem in the corner just when speeding down the straight it seems to want to fish tail. What hop-ups should I look at getting first up???

Tweak station for balancing the car is also very important. Also, when you set the droop, get a pair of droop blocks to rest the car on and a good droop gauge and ride height gauge. A good set of tools should also be in your own toolbox.

I know that you said you are all pooling your money together to get this stuff but you may want to save up for your own equipment. Too many hands means many more chances for broken equuipment and not enough admission of guilt. Besides, it's always good to have your own equipment. HUDY, Integy and PMB all make good setup stations and I listed them from highest to lowest in price. For a setup station, if you get the HUDY ultimate setup, you get the tweak staion with it ($250 US). The integy and PMB setup stations don't have tweak stations built in. You can get this from speedmind for about $40.

As far as fish tailing, take a look at what is going on. Are you trying to correct the car while on power? Let go of the steering wheel and see if she'll track straight while hitting the throttle. Take it from there and let me know the results. It can be a simple fix from finding a binding part to rebuilding a diff.

Caster is only adjustable by swapping front knuckles. Rear toe is only adjustable by swapping rear knuckles. Camber and front toe can be done on a setup station. Camber can also be done accurately with a cheap RPM gauge. Ride height is done with spacers on the stock shocks. There is no droop setting. Make sure all 4 shocks are an equal length or you will surely be out of tweak.

To answer your spinning problem I need to know what kind of tires you are running. If they are rubber then the tires are probably the problem. They may be ballooning off the rims. Try a set of foams, you need to use a 2-degree offset in the rear to clear the radio box.
 
Since this wasn't mentioned:

The RS4 Evo does not have adjustable components: You'll need to put adjustable toe links and camber links, etc on the car to change many of the settings your discussing.
 
You can use parts from the SS version of the RS4 so you can get adjustability.
 
When I was having the problem I was running 40's on the front and 35's on the rear. The more I think about it the moe I think that it may have something to do with the 2 speeds shift point. The track I was on isn't the smoothest and doesn't offer that much grip. My shift point was a fair way down the straight and a friend noted that it may be shifting to high in the rev range and caused the wheels to spin. Does that sound plausable??

When I get my car back (dud reciever) I plan to go to another track and see if the problem persists.
