Hi,

I am using the throttle trim on the transmitter to set the idle speed on the servo side. The question is: how should I be doing this?

The throttle arm on the carb goes from fully open (max air in) to fully closed (min air in). Should the throttle trim be set so that the throttle arm on the carb is fully closed, or should be open a little to get the revs up a bit?

I believe you should be using the idle speed screw to adjust how big the minimum opening of the carb is. Don't use the transmitter as a tuning device!
 
smart question! what do you use the transmitter tunner for? I kinda know how to do it.... guess its not so smart :whack:
 
As solman989 said, you don't adjust idle with the transmitter, always use the idle adjustment screw. Good luck.
 
The reason why you do not use the transmitter to adjust the idle is because when you hit the brakes, the carb will close more and will possibly stall the engine. When sitting at idle and then you hit the brakes, the carb should not close any further.

Use the idle set screw on the engine to adjust the idle.
 
You should set the idle screw (the small screw on the carb) so that the carb doesn't close to any less than approx. 1mm. That should give you a reasonable idle to start with. That way you can be sure when you hit the brakes, the engine won't die. I usually use the throttle trim for 2 purposes. I will sometimes turn it up when I'm starting the engine so the carb is open a little more until the engine warms for a minute. Then I turn it down when it's ready to run. The second thing I use it for is to sometimes set a little drag brake if I want. That way a little brake comes on at neutral stick. Although it's not all that good for some brake materials. So be careful with that...
