I hope this is the right place. But i need help i took apart a servo to put in a new motor and the motor responds good without the gears but with the gears it goes to one side and gets stuck and I've been tryin to get it right for 2 hours. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks

I've only replaced faulty servos with new ones. I didn't know they could be rebuilt. Anytime I took one apart, it seemed hopeless to get it all back together.

Yeah they sell motors for servos sepratly Nd metal gears to rebuild servos.

Sounds like the potentiometer (POT) is fried or has issues. It's what pivots under the output shaft gear.

With all the gears off, does the servo just run nonstop? If so, turn the POT by hand and see if it slows or stops. You have to move it in very small increments. As you turn it, it should slow the motor, stop the motor then cause the motor to spin in the opposite direction. If it doesn't do any of that, then either the POT is fried or the circuit it's controlling is fried. Could also be water in the POT.

This is the only photo I have of a servo with the top off. Green is the POT, red is the motor:

The top busted off on a hard landing without any direct contact to the servo. Figured it warranted a photo. :)

Nice carnage..I have busted my share of parts. Never seen that one!

yeah it does all of that like when i find the right spot it stops and with out gears the remote controls it good but with the gears it turns the pot one way and gets stuck like on the remote if i turn left it goes all the way left and gets stuck and dosent want to move.

Any servo I had that did that was beyond repair that didn't cost more than the servo itself. Most of them were due to water damage though.

Ok thanks for all the help. I just wanted a temp servo for my poor car :/ Ill be getting a new one in 2 weeks I'll post pics of my custom rc 10 then :)
