OK so after completely tearing down the savage a few weks ago I found that the diffs are not sealed in any way. I could not beleive it! After taking the lower skid plate off the gears were exposed. Did I get a dud maybe? Are they not supposed to be sealed?

I ask these questions because I recently came across a few threads that mention different weight diff oils for a savage. If the diffs are not sealed how can you possibly put diff oil in them???

Are you sure your not seeing the diff case and the drive gear? There should be a spur gear tied to a cylender. Your diff is in they cylender.

what your seeing is the ring and pinion gears.you need to take the diff case apart. and then you will see it.the first time i did this i said the same thing.lol
