So a few things of interest for the SCX-6 fans or interested people out there.
1. Hobbywing just announced a larger Fusion motor for the SCX-6 and other large-scale crawlers: https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/products/quicrun-fusion-8ight
2. Horizon Hobbies has one heck of a sale on the SCX-6 at the moment: https://www.horizonhobby.com/product/1-6-scx6-trail-honcho-4x4-rock-crawler-rtr/AXI05001.html
3. UC Fab / Frog Something Designs have released a cloned large-scale version of Dlux-Fab's transmission for the SCX-6. It's pretty interesting but grossly over priced in my opinion. I'm sure the Chineese knock-offs will show up shortly for about 1/3rd the price.
4. We have our own new transmission in prototyping now which is built around a worm gear setup and vertical outrunner motor mounting position. For slow-speed crawling and weight savings, there is nothing remotely close in design on the market. If it works out well, we will write a program to machine it on the mill out of aluminum. The worm gear also functions as a mechanical drag brake by it's design, so we can use a standard 540 motor and have plenty of control. We will test out a number of outrunners, looking to see just how small of a unit we can use and still have enough torque and drag brake for crawling.
5. Rumor mill says Axial might drop a 1/6 Capra based on the SCX-6. They would only need to change body and develop portals for the current axles, and that would be a fantastic machine. Second rumor says it will be a 1/6 Bomber. Who knows?
I hope this all points towards a growing SCX-6 market because it's one of our favorite machines on the market, and if you wanted one, now is the time to make your move.
