Yeah well that’s kinda embarrassing, my original multi part card pattern was copied onto a nice clean one piece card pattern, and from that I made the aluminium one, each time I drew around each generation of the pattern with a sharpie and with each generation it got larger, so the metal screen is quite a bit bigger than it was supposed to be!

I have now corrected the ‘master pattern’ ready for the polycarbonate to arrive. Must cut to the inside of the line not the outside.
I had that exact same problem when I was working on my Javelin driver head. The face was molded into the helmet, and they just use a decal to create the face shield. My original Javelin driver back in '86 took a rock to the face and ruined it. I made a proper one off the decal stuck to lexan. But I foresaw that and lengthened the cut of the lexan. No more broken noses 🤣

He looks very smart, good job

The aluminum wind screen does look pretty cool. I would rock it, but I'm a little unconventional. ;)
It just looks like mirror tint 😉

Dear all,

How would you cut a 10" tip to tip Crescent shape out of 2mm thick polycarbonate sheet?
I don't own a small table saw, and my band saw is horrible (lives in the back of the bike shed, ready for the next trip to the recycling center!)
I could score with a knife and snap, but one slip and it might be the end of that sheet of plastic or my fingers, I could drill lots of holes (please no) either way the risk of damage to the sheet is an issue, despite the protective film.

Any thoughts would be welcomed

Xacto with a #16 blade and slow and steady.

Is it a perfect arc? If so, make a homemade compass.

Or make a template out of metal sheet.
Sadly its not a perfect arc, Metal template is a good idea, especially for the internal curve.

Cheers, always worth asking on RC talk :0)

As an aside and a compliment, I mentioned on a HiFi forum that it was disappointing how often threads would descend into arguments, with each party not listening and taking an entrenched position.

And yet I have rarely see this happen on other forums I visit, including: cycling, musicians forums, astronomy, model engineering and here at RC Talk! (Yes i have too many hobbies)

OK perhaps i don't see the full extent of this forum, but it really is a terrific place, and from what I have experienced, a friendly and helpful membership.

Oh, you definitely live a bit of a sheltered life here on the forum. But you bring an aspect of this hobby with you that nobody else does with these tethered car builds, and I am so glad you decided to join here and share your amazing work, instead of keeping it to some other UK only platform. I put you right up there with @johnnydmd on an untouchable pedestal in your specialities, and those specialities are pretty damed vast in what all you guys can accomplish!

Watching something come together from a bunch of raw materials is really special. And you guys are both in a class all your own, trust me. Now get your butt back to work, because like me, I am sure there are a bunch of folks here dying to see the finished project 😉

Yesss Sirrrr! LOL, must check out @johnnydmd [Edit] OK just taken a look, Wow!

I appreciate that my stuff is more than a bit niche.
The reason why i am here and not somewhere else is that the tethered car world takes its self a bit too seriously for my liking, (they have helped too) and more importantly in my experience the US has a can do attitude.
For instance, If I want to understand how to hack a Prius its no good going to a UK or EU site.

Enough of the gushing praise, back to work swatting up on cable compliance with BS ISO 60287

The first thing I saw of his was this...

But trust me, that well goes much deeper.

Got bored so I dug my table top band saw out of the back of my bike shed, I'll give this a go, recon it might be safer than me wielding a knife. Need to swap out the blade for one with lots of tpi, then try on some scrap.

Not used it since I replaced the tyres.

Have any double sided tape? You're going to have much better results if you stick that poly down to a firm backer, like a thin sheet of hardboard or something.

I would use a laser, but that's because we have one at work. ;) 2mm is going to be tricky by hand.
Yes, always a risk of cracking and scratching. I have to keep reminding myself that its likely to get battered in use.
I'll give it a go and if its a problem, then I can always revert to 250 drilled holes

Ok, the first thing you need to understand about audio is that YOU are wrong and I am right. Once this is established and you respect how much more refined my ears are than your 'regular' ears, we'll get on just fine! 🤣
I used to install pro audio and lighting. You'd be amazed at some of the nonsense I've seen and heard! 🤣
My gear sounds just fine. 😉👍
We try to keep it together here (on rct) I think. There are sub dramas and little things. Sometimes big blowups too but the community here stands strong.
Its great when we get ppl like you here who are building for the shear love of the build. Sure, the finished product will be an amazing piece of art too... This thread though, its about building and making. Its not the same as assembling parts from a box.
Not putting down kit builders!!! I still thoroughly enjoy building my buggies too! I just enjoy watching you build the parts that I still have to go out and buy!!! 🤣
This whole build has been a pleasure to follow! (excepting a wound or 2 maybe) 😉
