Build Thread Scratch build electric tethered car racer

Heres an up date on the electric tether car, yesterday i ran it again on a freshly re ground track surface and broke the track record and also the UK national speed limit car ran at a timed 73.5mph over ten laps (sorry no video but they did take my picture to commemorate!) As usual the car put a neat black stripe around the circuit what was notable were the far fewer places were the stripe stopped, i.e. where the car isnt touching the ground. So it seems the way to go faster is make the track better, smoother and flatter. Oh and it was a very warm day here in the UK, at around 31 deg C or (87.8F) not sure what the track temperature was, that was in direct sun light.

Thanks Mike, it was a lazy day with most just hanging about talking, so I had as much track time as i wanted, I ran my IC car too, and really just brought the electric car for a bit of variety. I was a bit surprised when the time keeper mumbled "that was quick" and wandered off to check his figures. Lowering the pivot at the centre probably helped too, getting traction is the limiting factor as I can't use full power as all I get is more wheel spin.

Lol! 'that was quick' keeps making me chuckle. I guess thats about the best thing you could hope to hear from the guy holding the stopwatch!

Do you intend to keep pushing the limits? Maybe try different tires or other ideas?
Would a gear change be too much work at this point?

73mph! I have to drive my Focus down hill to get it to 73 mph! And thats with a good tailwind too!

Well that has got me thinking, sure I'll keep trying, the motor barely gets warm and the battery is never discharged when I get home after a day at the track, I have to take the battery down to 'storage' voltage with my charger. I have tried a higher gear ratio but I still get wheel spin, the fact that it leaves the ground is the issue. The proper tracks have the pivot lower so that the car gets less lift from the raised pivot, but you have got me thinking, what about a bit of aero? a spoiler ? I expect they are not technically allowed but we don't really follow the rules, its just a bit of fun. I'll give this some thought.
