hi, i went to my lhs and wanted to buy a nitro truck. the guy is sellling the savageX and the Revo 3.3 with a Futaba control for the same price. i find both cars really nice. i realized that the savagex only has one servo as opposed to two with the Revo 3.3. Is this a major drawback?? and that the savage has no reverse. in your opinion which one should i get if both are priced similarly?? thanx

This is a common question, most agree that if you want to bash then get the Savage, if racing is key then get the Revo. Reverse is not legal at most races, but handy if you're bashing.

I'm not sure about the X but the Savage 25 steering servo is weak out of the box.

Both are good trucks, both are tons of fun, so which one suits your needs the best is what you need to decide.

I think it all comes down to personal opinion. If you like one you prob are going to not like the other as much. Savage owners will tell you thiers is the best and same vice versa. Just use the search bar up above and do a little research about both of them. This is discussed all too often. I did the same when I before I got my savage, but i would suggest just reading up on both. Also, make sure yo break the engine and truck in properly, and you will have so much fun with either one you pick. I mean you could draw a random number out of a hat associated with each truck. Do whatever you like. Also look to see what your LHS carries in form of parts bc when you do break something(its going to happen) then you can either get the part from them, or get them maybe to fix it. I would suggest fix it yourself. You learn so much about the truck itself and how everything works, and to me that's half the fun. On that note I would even look into getting a kit, which you put together and is prob a little more expensive bc you have to buy servos, radio, electronics, and some other things, but you will know the ins and the outs of your truck. I wish i would of gone that way, but heck I have a nitro that runs and I love it. Good luck in making a decision.

I never owned the X but I have owned a few Savages and still have one, I have also owned a couple of Revos including the 3.3. IMO you will be very happy with either one.

If you want to bash and race the Revo would be my choice, if your going to just bash the Savage would be my choice. The Revo is faster and handles better but the Savage jumps better and is tougher.

this will be your best awnser imo, if you think you will want to race (even against friends) id pick revo, otherwise you wont go wrong with either...pick what looks cooler to you

The savage is easier to setup for big air than the revo. The savage also allows you to install any BB engine (aftermarket). The revo really limits you on engine choice.

In general, the savage is easier to get aftermarket things for. There are things out there for the revo as well, but things like engine mounts, exhaust/header, clutch's, CB's, shocks... those are all very "revo" specific and most aftermarket replacements are pricey.

The savage will allow you to use almost any BB engine and exhaust pipe. With a few aftermarket parts, you can run 1/8 buggy shocks, different rims/tires easier, better engine mounts... stuff like that.

I have a old savage, but with many upgrades and a SH28 BB engine. I have a 3.3 revo chassis with a new era BB kit, but my pipe looks stupid.

Both are fun, but the savage was easier to upgrade and not have parts look funny on it.

i have a savage x & a revo 2.5 and a old s-maxx both traxxas now need new power plants but my x is still runnin strong

I think this is a very bias statement, I have had many TRX engines last a loooong time.

dont mean to sound bias but its true. now both the traxxas were my first trucks and i may have been harder on them

I have had a few in my time and the longest was on my Maxx 2.5 with the crap cast iron head. That really retained heat rather than diesperse it. It ran great but it did like to run about 270 degrees. That was its running temp average. If you ask me they are designed to run hot.

The Savages I owned the longest was my basher that had a 25 and then later went to a Picco 26 for a bit.

I think that the big plus for the Savage is that it is Big block ready. The Revo is limited. IMO this does not hinder performance as it is proven by many how a well basher or racer it can be.

I would take another savage again. I am currently playing with my Revo's.

Agreed!

Your as bad as I am...I keep switching from one to another...I think I'm getting bored.

I think if I stand on it too long without running it I get bored and want to try another ride. Hence...the revo..again.LOL.

But regardless, either the Savage X or Revo 3.3 are going to make you happy. If you decide savage, I would get the X SS. A KIT TO BUILD!!!

I've got a "tame" Revo 3.3. It was my first Nitro. The 3.3 is a great mid-block engine. What sets it apart form the crowd and sold me on it was the suspension. It's fantastic. The current crop of 1:1 monster trucks are using an d getting big air in the jumps with very soft landings.

If I were to do it over again, I would stick with the Revo. As far as a big block goes, I've got a Revo roller on the way and it will probably end up as a big block.

I have never had a X but I have jumped my revo over 12 ft in the air at least 50 times and never broke a thing I am very happy with the revo and the ez stat is great. I run it real hard have hit things with it when i was learning and never broke a thing

the revo would be great for bashing and racing but with the x you can do more with the extra clearance if your into rock crawling or back country off roading

savage in my opinion is alot stronger. But the revo can take some bad landings too.
