I'm starting this thread so people who want a savage can see what the good and bad parts of the savage are. For the owners, feel free to add to the list. If you're into modifying r/c's then this list will also give you a better idea of what kinda of weaknesses you can focus on improving

Good
-Handles great. Very few times where i've rolled it.
-Found the tires to grip really well on dirt.
-Jumping the savage is easy. Very easy to control. Well balanced
-Very durable. Landed on the body a few time from a few jumps and only one crack. Have yet to brake anything. Even from landing incredibly wrong.

Bad
-Underpowered. The 21bb is a good starter engine but isn't that strong of an engine
-Dog Bones. Needs CVD's
-More factory options than t-maxx such as the electric start and reverse which is standard on the maxx.
-Hard to work on because of the layout of the truck
-Air filter is not good
-No fuel filter
-Pipe is loud

Looking at the list. It may seem like it's a bad truck. But i've really enjoyed the truck so far and have no regrets in buying it. Only thing I wish is that I could have a wide open place with big jumps to bash and have a nearby track to race at.

well ill be honest.. i have found the HPI Chrome HD bones to be less problimatic than the HB CVDs, where the set screw deforms and allows the pin to fall out.. besides that good list..

Kwong, the last good point you stated should be, "nearly indestructable". I beat the hell out of mine, and it hasn't really broken as bad as some videos I've seen of other trucks. You'd have to blow a jump in the grand canyon to really screw up a savage.

battery reciever box is a pain in the ass ...

but savage is quite indestructable ... as a matter of fact, I'm going to go drive mine now ...:w00t:

special note: I took me new savage down to my local track. With in a few minets i had a crowd. The loud pipe turns heads. The motor did not have a problem passing a T-maxx, the big block is nice because it is instant power. The truck was a little hard to steer on tight corners. The only problem i have is with starting, electric would be nice, but is it worth the weight?

e money ... once you get your engine broken in all the way and tuned right, it will start fairly easily . but the rotostart system is fairly light weight ... way lighter then the tmaxxs ez start . because there is no electric motor mounted in the savage ... its a good buy i guess if you get a good price . check the savage central store ... maybe they have it I'm not sure

I'v had mine for like 1month now, and have not broken a thing on this truck, and thats with bashing on dirt mounds. The power is really not that bad, I got mine to do wheelies on the stock engine, with HB exhaust and Motosaver air filter. I would recommend this truck over anything else.

Yes, it worth the weight......don't think it twice, buy a roto-start. The weight it's minimal compared to the benefits.

Replace radio box

One of the first mods I made was to replace my radio box on my ss (.25) with the newer, larger radio box from the 4.6. It's easy and eliminates all the problems associated with the old box. No more clips and plenty of room for everything.

@kwong the savage is a pain in the ass for the spurs and diffs it goes thou but hy its pretty strong I've never broke a part on my savage

heres my savage and i love it

I noticed it was old when I saw that it was started by kwong...gravedigging...comes to mind. But sometimes digging things up starts new things...
