So i started my break in today, I idled off 2 tanks at first then the 3rd tank on very low rpm's stopping to idle often, The 4th tank i maybe hit half throttle at max with more idleing than driving again, increasing as i went. Now i'm close to finishing my 7th tank and working on the tuning. I left the lsn and medium speed needles as factory set and have slowly been leaning it out 1/8th at a time. I've gotten about one full turn on the hsn with any more seeming to cause issues, the manual says it can be leaned out 2 1/2 turns max but anything after 1 i get bogging in 3rd gear. is this normal or do i just need more breakin time before i lean any more?

Also had an issue with it not shifting out of 1st gear at all, don't know what it was but when i richened ths hsn 3rd gear came back again??..any relation??

wow only on 7th .. man you wont be needing to tune yet, you need to get to 12 maybe 13 or 14 tanks till you can really tune and it not change. What i would do is just run it rich maybe not too rich as factory settings, but make sure theres smoke coming out from the motor, and its ok if it BOGS when starting to move from a dead stop. So run it rich, until you get to tank 12-14 then start tuning. You will notice its easier to tune

agreed around the 10th is when I was able to tune it well. Remember not to touch the mid speed needle and you right the hsn can be turned out way more but that is only for people at higher altitudes or colder temperatures. HPI designs their carbs for a lot of adjustability so people can tune them for there location all around the world. I adjusted my lsn first to make sure it always idled for me then as I went through the break in I leaned out the hsn bit by bit. But I always made sure the thing would idle for me. that worked really well and the thing is a monster. 10-11 tanks I was running it hard by then. Now I am on about 25.

thanks for the tips.. I'll deffinatelly leave it running rich for a few more tanks then start tuning everything. I managed a few more tanks last night (#10 now) and wow even running on the rich side this truck's got alot of jam!!
