Does anyone try 17/47 tooth on XL?

I have try it, but the slipper clutch pad melt after 3 to 4 tanks oil. Is the ratio is too large that the slipper clutch pad cannot support?

I've been running 17 x 48 (which is close) on an original Savage and melted a couple of spur gears.
These days the slipper while not torqued down 100%, is real close.
If I recall it's out a 1/2 turn and then set with a second nut.
I used to have problems where if I did a quick 180 spin and then rolling backwards when I laid down some power it would unscrew the spur nut. Adding the second nut solved that problem and the meltdowns.

Your slipper clutchnut is not holding. The nylon in the nut is wore out. Replace it or use some red loc-tite on it. Give the loc-tite time to dry.
