My buddy's savage has been having some trans issues. When he is driving at less than full throttle the truck shifts into 2nd gear fine but if he then grabs full throttle it seems to slip. Also if he is costing and grabs full throttle it also just revs without catching. If he goes full throttle from the start si shifts through all 3 gears just fine. Any ideas?

Thanks.

you can also scuff up the slipper plate.
you may want to replace the locnut, tighten it down all the way then back it off a quarter turn

i had a similar problem and i just had to clean out the one way bearing inside the trans and then relube it with a few drops of thre in one oil...hope this helps.....also like stated above check the slipper pad and scuff it lighly to get rid of any glazing:D

With it being that erratic, I'd vote for the internal OWB's in the trans. I think there are two with the 3-speed... take the trans apart, pull the OWB's, soak them in DA then run a paper towel through the center that is wet with DA and spin the OWB on it in both directions. Clean the shaft the OWB spins on with DA then put a couple drops of 3-in-1 in each OWB.

How old is it? Any idea how much fuel has been run through it?

It got maybe half a gallon through it. Its not very old. Been a problem pretty much after break in.

I know I had read a thread or two of people having issues with the 3 speed trans in late HPI rigs. They have been slipping very early in their lives. Maybe shoot an email to HPI and see if they can hook you up with new OWB's or something.

I'd still try cleaning it though. Could just be too heavy of grease/oil in it causing it to bind up and not grab.

I have the same problem and just got done talking to hpi. olds97 got it right they said to clean the bearing.
