Need a little help. I have a Picco .28 on my Savage XL and I have a problem with getting it started. The rotor start will not turn the motor over like it’s in a bind. But when I can get it started it fly’s. It has about a gallon of O’Donnells 30% threw it. And it did do this last summer a couple of time’s but now it does it every time I try to start it this summer. I have ran it about 3 times this summer. Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated.

You really need to preheat the engine with a hair dryer before you start it up. As these high performance mills breakin, they create tons of compression. Your piston is sticking at the top of the cylinder. Best way to fix this is heat the block up good and turn the flywheel with a screwdriver or pliers if you can get them on the flywheel. ALWAYS rotate the flywheel until you feel no resistance after you shut the truck off. That is bottom dead center.
It will take another gallon or two before that engine relaxes enough so that you do not have to worry about the sticking issue. If you keep forcing it with the roto start, you are going to break the engine or one way bearing. Picco parts are very high priced.

Thanks Scrogg
Yea I didn’t want to break anything that’s why I stopped running the truck. I figured it’s just like a car if you keep turning the crank and it doesn’t move something is going to break like a rod or the crank. Which I don’t want to happen lol. So I need to heat the motor up with a heat gun for a bit before I start it?

Or a hairdryer. Cracking the glow plug loose a little until the engine starts helps too. Try to get the engine to at least 150 degrees. If you crack the glow plug loose, tighten it asap after the engine is running.
