How strong is that though? Sure, it will help keep road rash off the head, but I'd think the plastic is still going to flex and the head is going to take the impact, which will crack crank cases or engine mounts.
 
It's better than nothing, I'd say. On the road you may run the risk of breaking something if you hit hard but that risk is there regardless. I've landed it flat on its lid from 5 feet and nothing happened but a cracked body panel. I was on dirt mind you, I'd never jump while on pavement.

You want things to flex a bit, too rigid and you risk breaking something important.

id have to agree with jessf it will work. But you would think there would be a better way. i have seen a few custom brackets.

Yep. That's a good point. Too bad it isn't a bit further above the head though to allow a bit more flex before it makes contact.

I make my own hack roll bars out of 5/16" steel bar. I bolt the ends to the stock roll bar using 3mm screws that if hit hard enough will break or bend. On the shock tower side, I mounted little metal straps that have rubber inserts to absorb the small roof hits a bit. Like I said, a bit hack. ;)

When you spend 90% of your time bashing alone, looking "pretty" becomes less important than having a fun time without worry.
