Hi Freinds
Just want to start off by saying their is alot of good info on this site. All help here would be great.

My Savage XL K5.9 went to the grave yesterday and I just dont know what happened motor runs around 203-213 temp. And I have noticed it been looseing power down low(stop doing wheels stands) but still ran fine up top yea yea I dont know. So I thought the tune on the low side was out of wack a little so I take it to the shop when I get there the guy say's start it up we run it for a little check the temp's 210 then the truck cuts off so we try and start it and the motor is locked up we both looked at each outher and said what the hell. So we take it apart and the rod is broke in half . This truck is 3 months old. I have a RS4 & a 4.6 savage and know problems.
So I called HPI today and left a message about what happened.
So I geuss my ? is what is a good motor for the savage besides the k5.9 what is you guy's thoughts on the STS D30M .30 my freind has one in his 4.6 savage and it is fast but will it carry the weigth of the XL

are you the first owner of the car? If you are you can call hpi and tell them that your warrantee covers the whole car, Therefore that they owe you an new motor. Then sell it on Ebay and get a different motor if thats what you want to do.

STS engines are a hit or miss. If you want the best engine out there for your savage then get a Picco .28

But if you really want to have the same thing as your friend then i would get the D30M.

But don't run it on a hpi polished pipe or it will start overheating!

thanks this is alot of help to me I appreciate it I'm not going to rush out and buy something without asking what you guys think because knowledge is the key to success

where is a good place to buy the picco .28 from I can't find it anywhere excep ebay

Not sure how many engines you've had, but from what I've read, the picco is a bit tougher to tune. Not untunable, but not as forgiving as other engines.

All the normal places I shop have the picco out of stock. Looks like nitrohouse or ebay so far.

Thanks alot on the info
picco harder to tune

I might just go with the LRP .30 then but I from what i read they are gas hogs but they are a little more forgiving on the tune I think thats what I need

The Picco is not so hard to tune. Its nothing to shy away from. Its the best engine for $200 out there.

I would not get the LRP .30 unless you are not a person that likes speed runs. If that is not the case then get the LRP .28 instead.

So you are telling me that the picco is more of a beast than the LRP

From everything I've read, yes, the picco 28 is stronger than the LRP28. The only reason I got the LRP28 was that my LHS didn't have a picco in stock when I went there. Then the only reason I bought a second LRP28 was because my first one had plenty of power for what I did.

So far in my savage, it's eaten two diffs, 2 sets of center cups and sheared one dog bone. I barely have a gallon of fuel through it, if even a gallon.

If the picco is stronger... then I say keep it! I'll stick with my weak old LRP. ;) lol

i ordered the picco .28 2day and i was thinking of getting the OFNA 086 pipe do I need the OFNA header with that or can I just use the XL but I like the header on the Dynamite 086 pipe better

Oh and thanks again for all te help guys

Get the Ofna version of the 086. It preforms better.

It might be better to have the ofna or dynamite header with it but you can still use the stock one.

Update
Called hpi and told them a to z what happened I was waiting on one of the answers like that’s racing I deal with this sometimes because I have a race car and when something like this happens that is what they would say. BUT she was very nice and actually very professional she said send it back gave me ra # so I sent it back they got it and looked at it and called me today and said that they were going to send me a new k5.9. I did not think this was going to happen. All I can say is HPI backs their stuff.

To bad I already got the picco .28 I’m just waiting on the 086 pipe to get hear to start it. So the k5.9 will be a back up for me.

Just want to say there is not allot of company’s like this left

Thumb up to HPI
