Savage X4.6 vs Savage XL issues

Ok, I want to get one of these. The deal is I have been reading about the carb issues and motor issues on the XL. I do like the larger size and stand, but seems all that weight is having issues on the motor of the truck. And honestly paying $579 for the truck and then have to pay another $200 + for a new engine doesn't sounds good to me. Now if there is a chance I won't have to deal with those issues then I'll get the XL, but is that the case with every XL out there? is it a design problem or just people not following instructions during break in? The X4.6 is sweet, good size and lots of power and will get that one if XL is really in need of some upgrades from Savage to deal with those issues. So, considering this, what should I get then? Are those XL issues really in all trucks? Thanks
 
do like me, I have a savage x with an XL motor. no probs for me as for motor.
 
What if I get the X4.6 and use the rest of the money to get a better radio? instead of using all to get the XL. That might work better maybe a DX3S?

Get X, rotostart, reverse, radio, or whatever makes sense for you. Maybe 3 speed tranny?
 
This was me a week ago, I could not figure out witch one to buy. I ended up with the X, and love it. I'm sure I will eventually get an XL also. I wanted the XL for its size, but the problems that I was reading about led me to the X. Either way you will be happy.

OR u could get the savage x ss kit and the dx3s radio at the same time. the x ss kit may seem expensive because the savage x rtr kit is about 20 bucks more, but the x ss kit comes with a better drive train and other odds and ends that the x doesn't. their's a x ss kit that comes with the 5.9 motor (the xl motor) too!!! i just finished building my x ss kit and it was great. each step has it's own individual bag of parts so you don't have to dig in one big bag for a part. and the spektrum dx3s is great!!! comes with a free rx too!!! and u gotta love the telemetry!!! good luck!!!!
 
I was going to wait on the xl until I found them for $399.00 at wings and wheels in Tyler, Texas. Had to jump on that... This thing is a beast. It was easy as could be to break in and tune. 10 tanks thru it so far and no problems..
 
congrats, you will love it. I have the X with the 5.9 and the thing is a monster. The engine has been bulletproof after 5 gal of hard bashing so I don't know why the neg. word on the engine. Maybe it does have something to do with the big chassis??? But on the X it is the sickest set up and tough as nails.
