Just traded for a savage X, i am a die hard Traxxas fan, anything i need to know about parts, or common problems with these trucks?

The Savage is pretty stout as is and won't need much. The rtr's come with a weak steering servo and the brakes need a little tweaking. A few screws, shock shafts and spur gears are about all I've ever needed.

i will pick some stuff up, i ran it for the first time today, and was very pleasantly surprised with the power and throttle response, i noticed the brakes are a little weak, nothing that an adjustment wouldn't fix. Seems to be a great truck though all in all. Thanks Racer

New (to me) Savage

Has Some Small upgrades, But i think i'm really going to enjoy this truck:D

Anyone have any Upgrade suggestions to make the truck more reliable or faster......dont think it can get much tougher.

The 2 speed does seem to be real short... even on hill climbs it shifts into second gear. but i havent adjusted mine yet. I kinda like it short though because on my home track its perfect. otherwise if your one long straight tracks or just like driving around on the street 3 speed is a must.

I will Check out the 3 speeds, I'm having problems now getting the engine leaned out, it smokes like a freight train but acts more like the hsn is too lean it falls on its face about mid range........i guess ill work more on it tomorrow to try and get it tuned, I think its the exhaust thats on it causing the problem,Are these engine usually hard to tune and keep tuned?

With mine it was pretty simple. but since I'm at 4000 ft above sea level i instantly have to lean my HSN about half a turn aswell as my LSN for it to run properly. Ill always tell someone your altitude changes the whole ball game because you can't go back to stock settings because those settings are adjusted from sea level most the time.

Moving on, i noticed my 4.6 does no like cold weather at all... it will be really really tough to start and i never drive it near my house so i can't used my heat gun to warm it up just only start it. So everytime its really cold out i dont drive it much it just gets really touchy and gives me a hard time.

I would just first lean it out till its cutting out then just make your rich adjustments in 1/8th turns untill the truck doesn't cut out any more. then you wanna make sure your idle is steady and can idle for as long as possible because you wanna be able to just start it and have it idle to warm up rather having to give it gas right when it starts to keep it running. you dont want that at all, you should be able to just start and walk away for a minute and get other thing prepared if you want.

Good luck !

*EDIT* heres a cheap 3 speed http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-87218-3...Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item336bc9949c and the gears for one if you wanna assemble it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-Racing-...Accessories&hash=item35b4a0b0bb#ht_1889wt_952
